THE UPSIDE DOWN, 00:00:00
EVERYTHING MOVED IN the Upside Down. Every plant and every creature, connected as one by the sick and twisted hive mind - Vecna, the Demogorgons... the Mind Flayer. Around them the ground pulsated, twitched and moaned like a single organism with many mouths and many terrible voices, all speaking at once. When Steve had entered, the Demobats had come swooping down like High School cheerleaders, leaving it up to Nancy to swat them away, as she'd done so many times before but gratefully in a different context. Eddie swung the boat paddle around madly, eventually resorting to breaking off the end into a long, sharp stake which he drove into the face of one of the incoming creatures, slicing it to pieces. Eventually, after what felt like hours of fighting and struggling against the oncoming swarm the team fled into the wooded area of the Upside Down and crouched below the distorted version of their "Skull Rock" for shelter. They couldn't see him, but all of them knew that Vecna was only moments away, feeling every move their made, hearing every footstep... he knew they were in the Upside Down and the group knew that Vecna was everywhere, in everything, watching everyone.
With seemingly no way to return back the way they came, the group decided to formulate another plan. "That was close."
"Yeah," Eddie added, swallowing hard. "Too close."
Steve grunted, sliding down against the stone... the demobats at the entrance had torn his stomach to bits, he was loosing a lot of blood. "Shit shit..."
"Steve." Nancy gasped, rushing to him.
"I'm fine I'm fine—"
"No you're not. You're loosing a lot of blood." Nancy insisted, using pieces torn from her shirt to bind his wounds.
Eddie scouted the area from a nearby rock... the lighting, the trees, even the ground was twisted. "So uh... this place is like Hawkins but with monsters and nasty shit?"
"Pretty much." Nancy said, straining as she lifted Steve back onto his feet. "Wait, watch out for the vines— it's all a hive mind."
"All the creepy-crawleys around here dude. They're all like, one or something. You step on a vine, you're stepping on a bat, you're stepping on Vecna."
"Shit." Eddie said, navigating his way down towards the ground carefully.
"But everything else from Hawkins is still here except people, essentially?" Robin asked.
"As far as I understand it, yeah."
"So... theoretically we could go to the police station and get guns and grenades and we can blow up the bats blocking the gate."
"Yeah Robin I doubt the Hawkins PD has grenades." Steve laughed.
"Well we need weapons."
"We need guns—"
"Well we don't need to go all the way downtown for guns. I have guns, in my bedroom."
Eddie jumped down and paced back towards them, folding his arms with a smug expression. "You, Nancy Wheeler, have guns... plural?"
"Full of surprises, isn't she?"
And so it was that the group started to walk towards Nancy Wheeler's strange version of her home, nestled in the dark woods of the Upside Down and covered in hulking, pulsating black vines that twitched and rubbed against the crumbling brickwork. Meanwhile, as the two ladies walked ahead deep in conversation, Steve and Eddie were having an unlikely conversation of their own...
