Rooster had been staying in Mojave for over a month. After our mission we were given a couple months off before our next reassignment. He had become closer to Maverick in the air, and he had invited Bradley to stay with him and work on his personal plane there. At first he didn't want to go. He argued for days that he couldn't leave me here in Miramar alone. I finally talked him into going, telling him he needed to bond with Mav over some time off. I couldn't let him know that he was right, him leaving did make me feel lonely, but he never failed to tell me how much he had been missing me. Penny had been missing Maverick just as much, that's why we planned a girls trip, to go surprise the boys. When we pulled up to the shop I hopped out of the car. Maverick noticed us first, immediately eager to go see Penny. I put a finger to my lips as I slipped by them walking around to the side of the plane where Rooster was working unsuspectingly. He struggled to find the solution to the engine's problem that was as simple as connecting two wires, making it obvious his mind had wandered elsewhere.

"You know you could make that a lot easier by connecting the blue and yellow wires." I tell him. At the sound of my voice he whips his head around breaking into a wide grin. I giggle as he hugs me tightly around my waist, making me stand on my toes.

"You're here," he says smiling into my shoulder.

"Surprise," I say taking his face and kissing him on the lips.

"Oh! I have something for you I'll be right back he says pecking my nose before running in the back of the shed.

"Before you totally flip out, no. I know you like to take things slow so I am NOT proposing to you after a few months of dating." He says taking my hands in his "However, I am giving you a promise ring and asking you if you would do the honor of being my wife someday."

"How could I say no," I say smiling as wide as ever and planting another kiss on his lips. My heart was bursting with love, and knowing that I had a lifetime with Bradley ahead of me, I couldn't be happier.
