The tom stared into the night. The night was alive, humming softly. As he enjoyed the music, he heard a horrible sound. He looked up and saw a huge badger, and it was charging straight at him.

The tom shrieked and bolted into the undergrowth. He felt thorns and brambles scrape his soft, white pelt. "Mouse dung, why now?!"he spat.

"Wait!"

The tom was confused. Had the badger spoken cat? The tom didnt stop although he wanted to.

"Please stop! I must speak with you!" The badger spoke with a thick, deep voice.

The tom skidded to a stop and spun around. The badger also stopped and was panting loudly.

"What do you want?!" The tom growled, unphased by the amount he had to run.

"H-How are you not t-tired...?" The badger huffed and puffed.

The tom looked away. "I used to have a Clan that would race the moors, I was at a disadvantage here, how didn't you catch me?"

The badger flopped onto its side and put a paw over her belly. "I've got cubs on the way, and I need help."

The tom stared at the badger, shocked. "Well I can't help you." The tom looked away. "I can barely help myself."

The badger sighed. "Oh don't be such a downer! My brothers and sisters are coming for my head, I'm sure I'm in more a calamity than you!"

The tom glared at the badger, then softened his gaze. "Why are they coming for you?" He asked. The tom then remembered the many thorns piercing his pelt, and took some out.

"Because I'm the bearer of an important badger's cubs." Sadness gleamed in the badger's eyes. "The badger who was adored by all... he passed away saving me and my brothers and sisters all blame me."

The tom winced as he pulled another thorn. "I see. Well I'm not sure how I'm supposed to help you." He lapped at the blood pooling around the wound.

"Surely you can? Look at your physique, strong and muscular. Surely you'd be able to protect me long enough to get away from this forest?" The badger stated. She sneezed as a bit of dandelion fluff fell at her nose.

"Maybe," he licked his paw pad. "But I can't take on a whole group of badgers, it's just not possible."

"Well maybe not but we could make a den and hide there until my cubs are born?" The badger suggested.

"Hm. Perhaps that could work." The tom stared into the forest.

"What's your name?" The badger croaked.

He turned his head. "I'm Storm. You?"

"Hi Storm. I'm Midnight."
