Originally, this was going to be two short stories, as you can see by the demarcation line between Chapter 03 & Chapter 04. But as I got around to actually writing it, I realized there wasn't an actual reason to break it up into two stories.
This one I got to introduce something really fucking weird. There's a lot I like about horror, but what really gets me are horror games like Silent Hill. With games like Resident Evil or Dead Space or Doom, you look at the monsters and get grossed out or creeped out or whatever. But with games like Silent Hill? You look at some of those monsters and just stop cold with this feeling of: What the actual fuck is that? What am I even looking at?
A zombie is scary in its own right, I mean sort of. They're insanely overdone, but you get the point. A rotting human that's still moving around and trying to eat you is frightening for obvious reasons, but you at least understand what you are looking at. But a more interesting monster, to me personally, is something that you aren't sure what you're seeing. You're looking right at it (not the best description, given you couldn't actually look at the monster in this story) and you can't fully comprehend what you're seeing because it's just so other.
That was the idea for the story. That and I just had an idea I wanted to put to use. I just wanted to write about something really weird. I also wanted to get started on Jennifer and Genevieve's relationship.
