"what do you mean you're always too late? you're always here on time, stupid." i scoff.

his eyes just widen as if he wasn't expecting such an answer.

"oh yeah, i am aren't i?" he laughs nervously.

"yes, that's what i just said. you always show up at social studies early."

"well, so do you. you're never too late. you're never late at all." he says, sounding like there's double meaning.

"isn't that a three days grace song?" i ask, wondering if i had said the name of the band correctly.

"how did you know?" he asked, slightly tilting his head.

"you leave your window open quite a bit, and you had that song playing a few times. i'm not judging, i mean i do the same thing and my music taste is much worse than yours." i explain.

"there's nothing wrong with a little one direction every once and a while." he laughs softly, then sits down at the seat next to me. i just noticed he was standing the entire time. i actually don't know how i didn't notice he was standing. he's like a giraffe.

i also begin to wonder if he's always sat there and i had just never noticed. does that make me a bad person? he lives right beside me. i should talk to him more.

"have you always sat there?" i wonder.

he looks hurt, then retorts with a rude, "have you?"

"well yes, i just-"

"skylar, no it's fine, we'll just wait for you to finish talking. you're more interested in flirting with the boy next to you than paying attention." ms.davenport interrupts.

"wow, how generous of you, i was actually interested in the conversation." luke replies with a smile.

ms.davenport glares at him, to which luke casually adds, "also, i have a name."

"go the office lucas." she instructed.

"why does everyone call me that? it's not my name." he complains, standing up.

"they call me 'bell', they call me 'stacey', they call me 'her', they call me 'jane', that's not my name!" michael sing-shouts throughout the classroom, therefore causing his idiot friend, calum to high five him.

"go with lucas, michael." she orders irritably.

"yay, luke!" he exclaims, causing luke to look more annoyed than usual.

as they walk out of the classroom, luke mouths at me 'you owe me.'

how, you ask, does it feel owe luke hemmings? oh, you didn't ask? i honestly don't care and am gonna tell you anyways.

i actually didn't mind.
