Angel slightly regretted agreeing to be the one to meet Carlin.
When Angel spotted him, which it was hard not to, with his golden hair and sapphire-like eyes, he seemed to already have known that she was looking for him.
There was a flicker of distaste in his eyes, though Angel thought that most didn't make his approval. This was far from the bad part, the bad part was when he smirked and walked straight toward her.
Angel took notice of what he was wearing, even though it seemed as if no one else even cared.
He had on a burgundy coat with gold threads, a black silk button-up, and black trousers that seemed fitted for his body. When he reached her, he looked like he had more than a couple of hearts under his sleeve, and Angel had no doubts that might have been true.
"Play along." He whispered into her ear. Angel looked at the man she barely knew and opened her mouth to reject him when her plan worked its way into her brain again.
Angel's purpose was to get close to him, and she didn't think that any girl that was of common heritage would reject his offer. Ladies of the upper class were taught that only common girls went to places like Icarus, and Angel Verona was a Lady, but Ava Jackson was not.
When she finally made her decision and glanced back towards him, Carlin's eyes became the only thing she could see.
The bright sapphire color took her eyes captive.
Only when he had opened his mouth did she remember who he was.
"Sly fox, you escaped my grasp" Angel giggled, at what, even she did not know. "I'm sorry Carlin, my friends had kept me away." His eyes showed he approved of what she had said, that he approved of her acting. For a moment Angel let herself forget about her mission, let herself think of how it would be if they were really in love.
But then it was all broken by the noticing of a crowd around them.
Angel soon realized the point of this plan. "Tell me your name Fox" he whispered again. Angel looked up. "Ava Jackson" Carlin nodded. "Alright Fox, may I ask for a favor?" Angel tilted her head, her medium-length hair tumbling off her shoulder in waves. "Ava, and yes, you may" His eyes scanned her silver ones, looking for any sort of break. When he had found none, he stepped even closer, pleased.
Then he put his head on her shoulder the way a lover would and mumbled.
"Be my fiancé, Fox"
*******
Elaine felt it was time to get out of this situation.
Especially when she overheard other girls at the bar talking about a girl Carlin has called Fox.
She wondered briefly if that girl might have been Angel but quickly that thought seemed impossible, and Elaine needed to reach her and talk about if this girl might be a hindrance to the plan.
"I have to go, my friend must be waiting"
He cocked his head to the right "the girl you walked in with?" Elaine nodded. "Tell me your name before you go"
"Eliza"
"Special name, Love."
"Start calling me something different, it's getting old."
"You wound me."
Elaine got up quickly, because this interaction was slightly getting uncomfortable. It wasn't normal. He sounded like he knew more about her then he let on. Like he knew she was lying.
