"Oh my GOD, it's STEVE!" Phoebe whisper yelled at Carol as they walked to 2nd period.

"WHAT is Steve?" Carol asked, clearly confused.

"With NANCY! He's the one she was making out with! I saw them walk out of the bathroom by my locker when I stopped before class," she explained. Her friends face was still and then flashed with realization as she put it all together.

"WHY?! What could he possibly see in her? Or she in him? Have we ever even seen them speak to each other?"

"NO! I thought they barely acknowledged each others existence. Now I know they're swapping spit on a regular basis, I'm mortified!" Phoebe's shoulders shimmied as a shiver ran down her spine.

"WAIT?! Do you think he'll invite her to hang with us now?" Carol stopped dead in her tracks. Phoebe's eyes almost popped out of her head at the thought.

"GOD I hope not! That will throw off the whole dynamic! We can't have 3 girls and 2 boys it just doesn't work, someone will be the 5th wheel and it sure as HELL isn't gonna be me!" Phoebe was whisper yelling again as the walked down the hall. Their hushed tones and tilted heads earned a few side glances from their classmates, but this wasn't even the weirdest thing they'd seen the girls do together.

"OKAY! Calm down, I have next period with Steve, I'll talk to him. Just slip it in randomly and see what he says," Carol assured her friend, who was barely focused on the words leaving her lips.

"Okay...you have to tell me EVERYTHING he says at lunch, yeah?" Phoebe gave her a look.

"Yeah, DUH! Now don't be late for class again and stop stressing, it's probably nothing." Carol said nonchalantly before flipping her hair behind her shoulder as she walked to class. Phoebe stood in the middle of the hallway, frozen. No way was Steve Harrington actually taking time out of his day to make out with a girl like Nancy Wheeler. No way.

At lunch, Phoebe had practically sprinted through the lunchroom to get a table in the middle. She thought that if everyone could see them Steve wouldn't risk inviting Nancy to sit with them. Unfortunately, her logic was wrong. She looked up from her sandwich to see Steve and Nancy walking side by side towards her, Carol following close behind. She shot her friend a confused look but Carol only replied with a shoulder shrug and her mouth in a flat line. Carol slid in next to Phoebe as Steve and Nancy took the seats across from them. The group ate in silence, both Carol and Phoebe not sure how to act with their new guest around. Phoebe dared look up and she and Nancy locked eyes. Phoebe turned it into a stare down, Nancy looking away quickly after only a few seconds. Steve looked up just as Nancy whipped her head to the side, causing him to glare at Phoebe. Her only response was raised eyebrows and a questioning look on her face.

The rest of the day passed, but something felt off the Phoebe. She didn't know if it was because Nancy sat with them at lunch or if it was more the idea that Steve was taking his time to not only talk to her, but spend time with her. Whatever it was, Phoebe had a bad feeling about what lied ahead.
