Day 6,204
The main street is calm and quiet. All stores are closed, the steel curtains down in front of their windows. The city lights give a strange orange glow to the air. A few cars parked on the side wait for the morning to take their owners to work. Silence has made the street its own. Jason's head pokes out from an alley, his hair hiding the bandage on his forehead. He looks behind him and makes a sign to Abby, tilting his head. He tiptoes to a building. Abby follows him closely, while she carefully scans their surroundings.
On the front door is taped a flyer showing off Demetra.
"Do you think she's still here?"
"Uh..." starts Jason grabbing his phone. "Depends. Do you think she's still working at 1AM?"
"Shoot. I didn't realize it was that late."
"Maybe she sleeps here."
"Doubt it. She probably stays at the town hotel."
"Want to go check there?"
Abby scans around.
"No. They won't let us in anyway. We need to go, we are way too close to the hunted house."
"What should we do, then? Go back to my house?"
"No. We'll go to mine, take my Mom's car and drive out of town for the rest of the night. We'll come back here in the morning."
"Your mother is gonna call the cops!"
Abby shrugs. "I'll text her saying Lilea needs to go to the woods and that you were kind enough to take us. She'll believe me, Lilea asked to go to the woods all the time when we were younger."
"She's gonna ask why we took her car."
"Yours was out of gas."
"Wow, you really thought this through!"
"I didn't." Abby turns away and starts to walk away, Jason after her.
Abby crosses her arms over her chest. The air is cold, and she regrets not wearing a coat over her sweatshirt. She can feel that she has splinters stuck in her flesh in more places than she thought. Knocking down a door is definitely not something she'll do again willingly. She walks slowly next to Jason, who glances around them anxiously.
"Where do you think they went?"
"I don't know. Maybe back to where they came from." shrugs Abby.
"And where did they come from?"
Abby's left eye turn purple. "From my world. Meehric." says Lilea.
"Like the Mamuas?" asks Jason.
"No. The Mamuas are not proper to any world. They travel from one to another with their own energy. They are very self-centered, so they don't take sides during wars, and just watch others kill each other." She continues. "They feed on life energy. Wars allow them to feed on more dying people."
Abby closes her eyes and shakes her head. Her left eye stays purple. Lilea wants to be part of the conversation. Abby sighs.
"What should we do about those Soldiers?" she asks.
"We have to keep them as far from us as possible. The car would keep us moving, so they won't be able to find us until we go to Demetra's in the morning."
Jason nods. "That sounds like a plan."
They arrive in front of the yellow house. Abby takes her keys out of her pocket.
