An Unexpected Turn

One day a few rescuers came to save the families and children from this horrible disaster. I was so hopeful of getting saved. Many families including me and my father were saved and we were taken to another country to a rescue shelter. There were a few orphaned kids who were then sent to the adoption center.

I was so grateful to the team that they saved everyone's lives. For the first time in 2 years, I smiled! I thought that now probably, my life would change. But alas! I was faced with another disaster that devastated me. My father passed away. I was in a complete state of shock.

Since there was no one else to take care of me, I was also sent to the orphanage, I was hurt when the Muslim Syrian girls were faced with gender and racial discrimination and were not given enough food. We were sometimes even bullied!

The rescuers heard my story and wanted to help me. Out of them was one lady named Alice. She was in tears after she heard my story. She always gave me encouragement and determination to continue my life and to never ever lose my hope. So you see, I always loved writing and making stories and poems but the only one who identified and gave me inspiration was Ms. Alice. She often corrected my mistakes and improved me. But I still could not get out of the discrimination I faced at the orphanage.

I was still hopeful about my life-changing for the better...
