elle was in the middle of packing her bags for her week long trip to the heart kingdom when yuno knocked on her bedroom door, letting himself in moments later. he perched on her bed next to her suitcase and mumbled his greeting. belle, who was sat in her usual place on his shoulder, happily greeted the queen before flying off to admire the many accessories decorating elle's room.

"so it's a whole week?" yuno mumbled in distaste, laying down on her plush bed and supporting his head with his hand being careful not to dirty the embroidered lilac sheets with his dirty boots.

"unfortunately," elle said trying to hold back a smile as yuno began to whine. she continued to fold a number of outfits and training clothes.

"I'll miss you," yuno admitted. he wanted to be selfish and tell her to stay in clover where he could see her daily, but he knew that this was important and she was queen. instead he tugged her forward, making her lay with him. she yelped as she dropped but the fall was cushioned by yuno's embrace. ultimately it would've been cushioned by the bed anyway but she much preferred being encased in the arms of her love.

"I'll miss you too," elle smiled, shifting in his arm so she could lay her head on his shoulder, wrapping her arms securely around his torso and giggling when belle started grumbling about how clingy they were acting. "at least it's only a week. queen loropetchka wanted me to stay there for the whole 6 months. i declined because i have business here." elle told him.

"I know, but I've seen you almost everyday for the past year, it's just weird to me knowing that i'm not going to see you for a while." yuno sighed, fiddling with her dark locks, twirling and threading the soft strands between his fingers.

"how about i come straight to you as soon as i get back?" elle offered, lifting herself up and supporting her weight with her arm.

"is that a promise?" yuno asked, sitting up and pressing a kiss to her cheek.

"it is."

"no matter the time?" he asked.

"no matter the time."

the group set out early in the morning. they travelled through finral's spatial magic to the closest point to the clover-heart border but since it would take way too much mana to travel all the way there and finral could only use spatial magic to go to places he'd already been, and seeing as the heart kingdom had closed borders with the exception of important personnel, there was no way finral could get them there.

they opted to use brooms for the rest of the journey until they got to the docks where they would get on a boat which would take them across the border. elle and mimosa had been to the heart kingdom before and were therefore approved but since everyone else hadn't crossed the border before they would be expecting a spirit guardian to guide them through and check for any smuggled mages.

loropetchka trusted elle wholeheartedly but it was simply a precautionary measure. gaja appeared when the air became foggy. he looked pissed as always. anyone who didn't know him would think they did somthing wrong but that was just his face.

"welcome queen elle. may i check that all people on board are on the list of approved personnel you sent beforehand?" gaja greeted her by lowering his head slightly, though he didn't have to since she wasn't his queen. lance began to pull the required paperwork out of his satchel, handing it over with a curt nod.

gaja skimmed through the pile before handing it back, ignoring the annoying chatter of the mages behind him. the wall of fog dispersed and the beauty of the heart kingdom was revealed, leaving many of the mages stunned as they admired the exotic scenery. gaja remained with them for the remainder of the journey and led them towards loropetchka's water palace.

"her house is underwater!?" asta exclaimed, his eyes sparkling as he looked around frantically.

"it's a water palace, the queen has water magic and in order to house the water spirit, her palace should be submerged in water" elle replied, walking with gaja at the front of the group.

"how will we breathe underwater?" asta panicked dumbly, magna looked put off. fire magic and water didn't mix well.

"there is oxygen in the palace as well as on the way down, don't fret." elle laughed.

upon arrival at the queen's throne room the clover mages, including elle, bowed or curtsied to show respect before standing in line ready to hear the queen's speech. loropetchka was beautiful. she usually remained in her casual clothes but with the arrival she changed into her finery and took off her overly-large glasses. her water-spirit, undine, remained elegantly behind her.

"good evening mages of the clover kingdom. i hope you have enjoyed the heart kingdom thus far," she smiled "as i'm sure you're all aware, the threat of the devils is becoming severe and queen elle and I forged an alliance a few months back to deal with the threat. some of you may know that the spade kingdom was overthrown almost 18 years ago, and it was recently discovered that the 3 siblings that killed the royal family and overthrew the kingdom are the wielders of the 3 most dangerous devils ever recorded, and have been conspiring to take over the neighbouring kingdoms,"

"in order to defend against that threat, elle and I put together an elite team to protect our kingdoms from this indescribable evil. each clover mage will be paired with one of heart's spirit guardians for intensive training in order to reach stage 0 in power and eliminate the devils"

the clover mages were stunned. when they signed up to fight devils they didn't expect to be fighting the worst of them all. many had heard of lucifero, magicula and beelzebub, and the thought of fighting against them frightened them to the core. noelle was now more motivated than before. she had a personal score to settle with magicula and she wouldn't stop until she avenged her mother.
