Emily was only twelve when she got the news that her best friend Luke had passed in an accident. She would lock herself in her room only coming out for meals if even that much after the funeral.
Now she was fifteen and her life has only gotten harder. She refused to make friends with anyone new and she would still disappear off to her room without a word being heard from her for the rest of the day. She knew this wasn't what Luke would of wanted but she couldn't bring herself to do anything but think of him anymore.
She would send hours going through photos and drawing his face in fear that she would one day forget it. She would watch the videos her mom would secretly take of them playing but their was always one she would watch on repeat trying to pretend that the promise they made as kids could still be a reality.

Flashback 8 years.

"C'mon Emily your so slow" Luke said while they raced towards the old tree house that they would claim was haunted.
"Luke wait for me." Emily said out of breath. Luke walked up and sat down beside her against an old tree.
"Promise that we can always be like this. And that we will always be the bestest of friends." Emily said holding up her pinky finger which Luke wrapped around his smiling.
"I promise."

Present time.

There was a knock on Emily's door behind her.
"What!" Emily yelled without turning around.
"Emily please come out it's not good for you to stay all locked up in your room." Her mother said quietly.
"You already know my answer so why bother even asking?"Emily said.
There were foot steps and muffled voices behind the door before she heard her father open the door and walk in.
"Emily this is not a choice anymore. I understand you lost him but that was three years ago." He said putting a hand on Emily's shoulder.
"I understand this is hard but this isn't what he would have wanted." Emily's mother added walking into the room as well.
Emily didn't reply just stood and walked out to the dinning room and sat down.
