The next day I drive myself to Logan's house. The rain splatters against my windshield, making it hard to see the road. I turn on my windshield wipers and pray that I don't end up in an accident.
When I get to his house he's standing in front of the door. I get out of the car and rain pours down on me. I climb up the stone steps and that's when I see the look on his face.
"Hey," I say. His brows are set low over his eyes and his jaw is clenched. Lightening sparks in the sky and the crack of thunder quickly follows.
"Hey what's wrong?"
"Let's go to your house instead," he finally replies.
I stare at him in confusion. "Why?"
He grits his teeth and the sound makes my skin crawl. "Let's just go to your house."
"Someone's in a pissy mood."
He doesn't look away from me. It's like he's trying to will me into doing what he wants.
"I'm already here, Logan. And trying to drive in that rain is like trying to commit suicide. What's wrong?"
He rolls his eyes and gives in. "My mom is dating some guy now. And I just can't stand to be in the same house as them right now."
"Don't you think you're being a little unfair?" I ask as another streak of lightening whips across the sky.
"I think I'm being completely fair. He's an asshole and my family doesn't need an asshole as the father figure."
I wrap my arms around his waist and press my head to his chest. "Your mom deserves happiness, Logan. Give him a chance."
He strokes my wet hair. "You're shivering."
"My teeth are chattering too. So can we go inside?"
He releases a long sigh and grabs my hand. When he pulls me inside it smells like meat loaf and wine. We pass the main dining room and that's when I see Logan's mom, Miranda, at the dining room table with a handsome guy. Her short dark brown hair is fanning away from her face is loose curls. The man has jet black hair and dark brown eyes. He looks like he was once a mysterious bad boy.
"He seems nice," I whisper.
I tear my eyes off of the man and see Logan staring at me with a look of disapproval. We jog up the steps and down the hall.
Logan pulls out a key and unlocks his room door.
"Tell me again why you lock your door."
He pushes it open and steps in. "Because I have twin baby sisters that like to destroy things."
I kick my shoes off and flop onto his bed. "Speaking of the twins where are they?"
He joins me on the bed, "My grandma's house."
He grabs his TV remote off of his night stand and presses the big green button. The TV drops out of the ceiling and I marvel at it like I do every time I see it. And I thought Kyler was rich. Logan's family is beyond rich. But if he doesn't mention it, you'll never know.
"So I met this guy yesterday," I begin. I want to tell him about Nathan before Natasha does.
He fumbles with the remote, "what guy?"
"His name is Nathan. He just moved here from New York. He'll be going to our school after Christmas break."
He snorts and stares at me. "You had a lot of time to talk to this guy."
I shrug. "I was in a Starbucks line. Anyways I think you'd like him."
"Are you sure you don't like him?"
I sit up and frown at him. "What is your problem?"
He pulls me to him and sighs. "Sorry I'm just so mad about my mom's Whatever He Is."
"Does he not have a name?"
I run my fingers through his hair.
"Brandon. His name is Brandon. That's a dick name."
I laugh and kiss his cheek.
"It's not fucking funny Isabella. What if they get married and he makes us move."
I continue to play with his dark hair. "You need to calm down and stop over thinking. And you need to stop being mean to me before I take another chance in the rain."
"I'm sorry," he grabs my hand and kisses my palm. "You should change out of those wet clothes. Take anything from my closet."
I stand up.
"Or just take the clothes off. Either works for me."
"Do you need some of my PMS pills for your mood swings?" I ask as I walk to his huge closet.
"I need something," he mutters.
Brandon doesn't seem like a bad guy. And seeing that Miranda has been alone for years, I say she deserves someone special. Logan needs to learn to share his mom. There's enough of her to go around.
