Sam pulled back from Darlin' and stood up. Darlin' raised up with him.
''No one would fuckin' believe me, unless they see for themselves, but what the hell was that?'' Sam stated still shaking at the thought of that thing. Darlin' whined and went to the bedroom door. Sam walked with them and opened the door up. Darlin' walked down the hall then looked back at Sam.
''What?'' Sam asked. Darlin' walked back to Sam and barked. Sam was confused, he crouched down the black dog. ''What are you trying to tell me?'' Sam asked Darlin'. The black dog walked back down the hall and rounded the corner.
Sam followed closely behind. Sam was thoroughly confused where Darlin' was leading him. When Sam rounded the corner, Darlin' was sniffing the closet door. Sam walked over and crouched down next to Darlin'. Darlin' whined and scratched at the door.
''What are you tryin' to look for, Darlin'?'' Sam asked pressing on of his hands on the closet door. A buzz came from downstairs, the doorbell. Sam un-crouched and walked to the stairs. Darlin' followed close behind. Sam checked the peephole in the door, it was Vincent. Sam sighed and unlocked the door.
''You can open, Vincent,'' Sam said, as he walked to the kitchen.
Vincent opened the door and was met with Darlin' baring their teeth. Vincent closed the door and backed up into the door. Sam whistled hoping that works on Darlin'. Darlin' stopped baring their teeth at Vincent and started to sniff him.
''Um, Sam when did you get a dog, and is this the black dog from the Solaire Estate?'' Vincent asked Sam shifting away from the black dog.
''Yes Vincent, Darlin' come here,'' Sam told them both. Darlin' trotted over to Sam past a corner, then into the kitchen. Vincent followed after Darlin'. Sam was taking out a glass cup. Vincent bumped into a box and knocked it over. Sam flinched hard and dropped the cup. It fell and shatter when it hit the floor. Vincent picked up the box and placed it back where it fell from. Darlin' jumped over the glance and went to the far end of the dining room.
''I can see you're still unpacking,'' Vincent laughed.
''Yeah, yeah, I still am,'' Sam said placing a hand on his face. Vincent raised his eyebrow and looked at Sam. He noticed that he was shaking, Sam usually doesn't get that afraid when something falls.
Vincent closed little distance then Darlin' walks around him with the dust pad and jumped back over the glass. Vincent blinked twice and looked stunned. Darlin' sat down the dusk pan and nudged into Sam's leg. Sam looked down and smiled in confusion.
''Did you teach them to do that?'' Vincent pointed at Darlin'. Sam shook his head, and stroked Darlin's head. ''Maybe they learned it from someone else, but it wasn't me,'' Sam said looking up. He gasped and his throat closed up. Behind Vincent was a dark figure with a distorted face. Darlin' looked at Vincent and started snarling and barking at him. Vincent closed even more distance to Sam and spoke.
''What's wrong, Sam are you okay, is this dog, okay?'' Vincent asked holding up his hands. Sam breathing patterns change rapidly and looked away from Vincent
. ''Vincent, I think you should leave,'' Sam started.
''What why, what's going on Sam?'' Vincent asked. ''You wouldn't understand Vincent, you're just human,'' Sam glanced back at Vincent. The shadow waved at Sam.
''And I can see what you can't see,'' Sam explained. ''Then tell me what you see,'' Vincent tried to sound like he didn't know what he was talking about.
Darlin' growled and started to bark at Vincent. '
'Sam, I think you and your dog should take a drive, maybe get your mind off of things,'' Vincent requested. Sam held Darlin' back, and Darlin' licked their chops and looked up at Sam.
''Yeah, I think we should do that,'' Sam agreed looking at Vincent.
''Just go and take a drive somewhere, please Sam, you've been overworking take some time for yourself,'' Vincent old him, Darlin' barked and sneezed.
''You two, my apologies,'' Vincent chuckled toward Darlin'. The dark figure was not behind Vincent any longer. Darlin' walked to the front door and sat by it. Sam nodded and looked at Vincent.
''Thank you for the idea,'' Sam thanked Vincent. Vincent rubbed Sam shoulders.
''You owe me twenty bucks, because I betted you that you would get a dog between 25-29,'' Vincent smiled. Sam scoffed and pushed Vincent's off his shoulders.
''I'll get you your money,'' Sam promised walking over to the door.
''Have a fun date you two,'' Vincent teased.
''That's fucking disgusting,'' Sam gagged.
Darlin's tail wagged a little, and they had a small on their face. They walked out with Sam.
---
''I know you saw that thing, and you got dragged by it,'' Sam groaned and leaned a little in his chair. Darlin' whined a little.
Sam and Darlin' were at a 7-Eleven (no Lasko and Gavin aren't going to show up) in the parking lot.
''It didn't look like a shade, I've seen shades, twice in my life,'' Sam remembered. Darlin' did a mocking howl. Sam looked at them with a slight smile.
''Then why don't you try to figure out; what the hell we saw today, k Darlin'?'' Sam asked them rubbing behind one of Darlin's ears. Darlin's tail wagged a little. '
'You are not like other dogs aren't you, you refuse to eat dry food, even canned, you prefer real food,'' Sam realized and pulled back his hand. ''Are you sure you're a dog, not human,'' Sam asked his black dog. Darlin' leaned over and licked his nose. Sam wiped his nose and laughed. Darlin' barked.
''Yeah I guess that does clear your name, let's head home, we're all filled and so is the car,'' Sam stated as he turned his car on, then put it into direction.
Then they drove out of the 7-eleven. Sam turned on the radio. Darlin' sniffed it and looked confused.
''Have you never seen a radio before, they produce music,'' Sam explained. Darlin' howled to the tune of the song. Sam laughed a hummed to it. Sam saw a woman in the middle of the road, he swerved. Darlin' went down on the floor of the car. Sam's chest was rising and falling pretty fast.
''You alright Darlin'?'' Sam asked. Darlin' barked and whined. Sam looked out into the road and looked down it.
No one was coming down the road.
''Alright, Darlin' I'm going to check something out, stay here,'' Sam ordered unbuckling his seatbelt. Darlin' barked and whined. Sam opened his door, Darlin' tried to stop him but Sam closed the door before they could stop him. Darlin' whined and scratched at the door. Sam looked down the road,
Nothing on the road.
Sam went to the place where he saw the woman. There was nothing there only a index card. Sam picked it up and flipped it over, it said;
Ӌօմ ʂհօմӀժ հąѵҽ ղҽѵҽɾ çąʍҽ էօ ʍվ հօʍҽ, ղօա ìէ'ʂ վօմɾ էմɾղ էօ ҍҽçօʍҽ;
last part was scratched out. He felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end. He felt chills, and he felt eyes. But he didn't know where.
He looked around and froze up. He saw the ''Mother'' from the Solaire house, she waved at him from the woods and pointed at the road. Sam heard a truck horn, then saw the headlights. Sam moved but not fast enough........
Darlin' howled in fear and sadness. The truck driver swerved to the left away from Sam's car. Between them both was the gore mess that the truck driver left of Sam Collins. Darlin' howled in more sadness.
The 'Mother' in the car next to Darlin' stroked them.
''It's okay, he'll join you soon,'' The 'Mother' soothed. Inside of Darlin', the human in them was angry crying. But on the outside they were crying in mourning of their owner.
The 'Mother' placed her head on Darlin's back and giggled. Her plan was going smoothly.
