The open doors of the large castle surprises my body. A disturbing shiver tickles on each of our breaths. Something seems a bit off. I thought the castle wanted me or was that just a trick. I don't feel that empowerment any longer.
With a great whoosh, flies through the seemly endless hallway. Torches evenly spread out on the castle walls light themselves with burning flames. The source of the fire felt as if it was burning something or someone. An eerie wind, calmly but unsteadily blows through the edges of the castle.
My mother quickly grabs my arm and pulls me close to her. "Something's coming!" Mother vigorously whispers. Fright overwhelms my facial expression.
Within a few moments, a hooded figure shadows the main entrance. They raise their head. "Sorry for that eerie feeling you get, The Higher One requested it to be like so," the Hooded welcomer states. So many questions.
"Who is the Higher One? Can we trust the Hooded figure? Is this place actually safe?" My thoughts crowd my mind.
The Hooded figure bends forward, revealing their face into the light of the noon sun. The figure releases a smile causing the appearance of multiple triangle shaped teeth, each paired together, covering the inside of their mouth. They gesture for us to follow them into the castle. I couldn't help myself but to cringe at the creepy face that was made by the Hooded figure.
Mother and I share the same uneasy feeling of doubt and fear. "Let's go," I mouth, hoping mother would understand my words. She simply shook her head. "Maybe this is worth staying to see. Perhaps they just wanted us to feel uncertain of our entrance, but that wouldn't make sense." My thoughts return to distract me from the present moment. "It could be a test! A test to see if we are brave and worthy!" A determining thought comes to mind.
*WHOOSH
*BAM
A large axe from a metal statue of a guard falls straight in front of me. I jump backwards avoiding any other possible danger. -I guess I was to in my thoughts to even notice the statues.-
I then notice what seems to be an endless chasm standing ahead of the axe. "Did the guard just save me?" I think to myself, gaining a new respect for statues all together.
Mother and the Hooded figure watched my life threatening scene. I form a small smile, to reassure them so they keep walking.
Within time, the Hooded figure reawakens us from our "endless walk trance."
"Up ahead is the entrance to the Higher One. He will say what is right," the figure states.
We face the tall doors, only looking at them.
The Hooded figure disappears with a whisk of their hood. We don't seem to acknowledge the disappearance of the figure, we solely stare at the tall doors as they creak open. Inside the open doors lies a grand throne, laying on top. . .
