When I say I hate men, I don't quite mean it.

not literally.

I have an incredible love for many men.

my brother, my grandfather, my uncle, my teachers, and most of the male musicians that have walked this gracious earth.

the list goes on.

I hate the things men have done to me.

or rather, the things they have not done.

my mother was a brilliant music teacher full of light and something I can only describe as maternal love.

you know the type.

my father was a stack of CDs that went up to the sky, my mother's most prized possessions.

her husband was just kind of there. never emotionally available unless he had a few drinks in him.

that is how life goes,

I guess.

the CDs were enough for a while.

they provided great comfort and words of wisdom, things that her husband never could do.

A while isn't forever, though.

soon enough the CDs were nothing but objects,

just like they were intended to be.
