Write about four things you hear
In the background, I hear the familiar melody of my mother's mandarin, explaining the masses of numbers and equations situated in the enigma known as my little sister's math textbook. The rising lilt of her voice, paired with the interjections of my sister, demonstrating her comprehension is obscured slightly by a nearer, more pressing noise. From my position in front of an open window, I can hear sprinkling from the hose, feeding life-giving water to the many bushes and shrubs situated in the front yard. The slightest hint of conversation leaks in from the window, then a chuckle; my father chatting with a neighbor. In my closest surroundings, I hear the rustle of paper, as my arm brushes against a jumble of sticky notes, as well as the frantic scratching of my pen against paper.
