It's been 3 weeks since Sonic had last visited his friends and Tails was getting more and more anxious. The past few weeks he hasn't talked to Sonic either, but Tails didn't mind. He was beginning to feel lonely and desperate for Sonic's presence even though he knew that they were spending time together.
He thought of everything that could go wrong today. Maybe Sonic would run late due to work, or get caught by Claw and forced to come home. Or, worst case scenario, he could lose the job and they would lose all of their money. Tails was scared. So he decided to call Sonic. His heart started pounding harder when he heard the phone ring, hoping that Sonic would pick up.
"Hello?" A familiar voice answered.
"Hey, Sonic... Uh... How are you?"
"Ughh, I'm really tired, but I'm also glad you called. Listen.."
Tails heard shuffling noise coming through the phone as Sonic was probably moving around.
"Can I ask you something?"
"Sure! Go ahead!"
"How did I end up here?"
"...Huh?"
"Don't get me wrong, it's really nice and warm, especially with you around, so I'm very grateful to be here. But, where am I? And why are you calling me?"
"Oh, erm, well..."
He heard Sonic sigh.
"Look, it' s hard to explain... But you see, I was working at GUN, and one night I was drinking a lot and got arrested. When I woke up I was tied up inside an office building, and all I remembered was waking up naked and naked was the last thing that I remembered before blacking out."
Tails gulped.
"And when I woke up I was here... And no one knows where I am and-"
"-And you need me, right?".
"Yes."
"And you think that I'm your best chance to escape this hellish world that you're trapped in?"
"Yes."
"Why haven' you called anyone else? You've known these people for years. Why wouldn't you trust me with it?"
"Because I... I can't... Look, I'm sorry, okay? I shouldn't have called you. Let's forget this ever happened."
There was silence on the other line.
"...Sonic?"
"...Yes?"
"I'll be over soon. Wait for me in the car outside."
"Where are we going?", Sonic asks.
Tails glances at him briefly from the rear view mirror before turning back towards the road again, trying to hide his excitement.
"To our place. We haven' seen each other in forever and I want to spend the whole night with you. I don' wana' worry about my life right now and you being kidnapped makes me want to cry."
"Alright, I'll wait."
As Tails drove home, Sonic thought about everything that had happened since he became friends with the hedgehog. He wished that everything could go back to normal and he could live in happiness but it seemed like there was nothing to be happy about anymore. He tried to distract himself from everything by talking with his other friends and asking them questions about life outside and everything they're doing. He found that they were able to answer most of his questions honestly and gave him a genuine response.
"Well, I guess it can't be helped that things turned out like this. I mean, look at Sonic."
"What? What did I do?"
"Do you remember that crazy dream you had back then? I mean, it might not have been real but you were convinced that it was happening."
"No way."
"You told me to stay quiet and to go to bed, so I did. After all, there weren't any other explanations that made sense considering the fact that you were awake when you said that. But that dream still bothers me since we were in love for as long as I can remember! We came several times together, sucked eachother off, kissed until we couldn't breathe, but now I think its time for something I thought we'll never do... Will you marry me?"
Sonic stared down at his lap unable to believe that he was asked that question by his childhood friend and boyfriend. It almost sounded like he asked Sonic as a joke but the look in his eyes suggested otherwise. Before Sonic had the opportunity to say or do anything, the ring on his finger began to flash and Tails's expression changed into shock.
"What the hell, Sonic!?"
He shouted as he got out of his seat.
Sonic grabbed his hand and stared blankly at the ring as tears began running down his face.
"I thought you loved me."
"Didn't you hear me just now?!"
"But you said-"
"I said no! I said no because I love you more than anything. That's not gonna change. I still wanna marry you, but I just wanna spend time with you without being interrupted by someone who's gonna try to rape us."
"Wha- Rape? Who?"
Sonic wiped the tears away from his face.
"Just stay calm. This isn't real."
After Sonic said that, Tails let out a bitter laugh.
"This isn't real?! You wanna go somewhere and pretend I ain't sitting here, trying to tell ya that I love you?"
"Tails-"
Sonic began to protest.
"Nah, listen, I'll give you a ride to your place and you go on to your room. But, first..."
Tails walked back to the driver seat and took a piece of paper from his jacket pocket.
"Here."
He tossed it over to Sonic, and the blue hedgehog quickly unfolded it, reading what it was:
"You can go to sleep now. Goodnight."
"You wanna go somewhere and pretend I ain't sitting here, trying to tell ya that I love you?"
"Yeah." Sonic said as he already stopped crying. "We can go wherever you want, as long as you're with me."
Tails got out of the car and opened up the door for Sonic. Once Sonic was inside, he locked the doors before turning around and walking back to the passenger's side.
