HALEY

“Morning beautiful,” was the first thing I heard as I warily opened my eyes. I saw that cheeky little grin shining at me waiting for a response. His green eyes were lighter than usual and looked at me probably examining my knotted hair dispersed around my face. I couldn’t help but laugh. Had he really just used one of the cheesy boyfriend lines? Cheesy lines always made me laugh, but this one was better than all the other ones I heard. The way he balanced his smiling head on his elbow, staring at me, waiting for me to just jump into his arms saying I love him. It was the cheesiest of all cheesy things. His smile disappeared as his eyes darkened with confusion. My laugh echoed through the warehouse waking up Niall, Danielle and Liam who were just a few feet away.

“Ugh do you really have to laugh so early in the morning?” Niall groaned as I continued to sound like a hyena.

“What is even so funny?” Liam questioned.

“He just said ‘Morning beautiful’ as soon as I woke up while staring at me. It was like oh look we’re in a cheesy romantic movie,” I said in between laughs and imitating the position of his body. They all let out a roar of laughter. Harry hesitantly followed their lead with one of the most uncomfortable laughs I’ve ever seen.

“Seriously mate? Morning beautiful? You watch too many movies,” Niall said.

“Oh come on it’s romantic,” Danielle said when her laugh had died down a bit.

“You’re right you’re right. It’s one of the most romantic things a guy can do,” Liam apologized as he turned towards her. He got extremely close to her face, staring into her eyes, and said in probably the creepiest voice he could do, “Morning beautiful”. We all erupted into laughter.

“Hey! I did not say it creepily!” Harry protested.

“You have to admit, it’s a bit creepy. It’s like you were watching me sleep,” I admitted. Niall coughed, muttering the words ‘Edward Cullen’ in between coughs.

“Wait a second. Since when are you guys a thing?” Danielle said as she scooted in closer interested in the non-existent gossip.

“We are definitely not a thing. No way, no how,” I said as Harry’s face drooped in sadness. I felt a tinge of guilt for my rude comment, but I did not want a thing, nor will I ever. He was a great friend, but there was no time right now for this. Harry tilted his head up to me staring right at me with his emerald eyes. My mind flashed back to last night when we had had an hour-long conversation, discussing just about everything. I remember him on his side facing me. It was pitch black, but I could just tell he was interested in what I was saying. I imagined those eyes looking right at me as if they could see every freckle on my face, but in reality all they saw was the black that surrounded us. I stopped these thoughts before I thought of something I would regret. I had to remember that the main goal right now is to get the cure and nothing can stand in my way.

“Is everyone awake? No? Too bad. Let’s go, the sun is already out,” Paul announced waking the rest of the group. We soon piled into the car and went off on our way. I noticed my gas tank blinking at empty. We had driven more in the last couple days than I ever have.

“We’re pulling over for gas,” I let everyone know, before doing another one of my many swerves into a once again empty lot. I did the usual procedure for filling up my car with gas.
