Akari ran through the forest. Her paws hurt from running but she kept moving. If she stopped, they would catch her and take her away. No one really knew what 'they' were, But she knew that if she got caught, she wasn't coming back. She finally had made it to the safe house for converters. She trotted into the hole in the side of the small building and descended down the stairs. "Akari!" Derym yelled. "I thought I told you to be back by 5:30! It's half past 10!"
"I know Derym, I was running as fast as I could, but a stupid Bracer kept changing my routes" Akari argued. Bracer is what they called the monsters that would come and take them every night. "The last few days you have been coming home too late. You are suspended from hunting until your 17 birthday in 3 months." Derym said, walking away. "That's not fair!" She yelled. He didnt turn around and keept walking. Akari always jealous of Deryms short fur. She got shaggy fur. His fur was brown along with his eyes. Akari's right half of her wolf form is black, the other white. Her eyes are also brown but they are much lighter than Deryms eyes. She walked up to her room and closed the door with her back paw. She always left it open before school so she could get back in when she returned in the evening. She laid down on her king size bed, and turned back into her human form. She turned back into Kieryn. It was tradition to have two different names. A wolf name and a human name. You got to pick your name when you're 13 years old. She named her wolf form Akari because Akari means white. She named her human form Kieryn because Kieryn means black. Black and white, just like her fur, and just like her hair. Even though her hair was opposite her fur. The white was on the right and the black was on the left. Her overgrown bangs covered her brown eyes and needed a trim. Her pale skin and rosy cheeks made her look like she was always sick. Her face shape was round but not to round, and she had a jawline but no cheekbones. Her lips were big and red, but her nose was small and perfectly rounded. She had a very small waist and very small hips. She was about 5 feet and 3 inches tall. She was the smallest in the pack by far. Everyone was an orphan. All of our parents had died in a war between the converters and the bracers. She was 4 when her parents were killed. Not long after her parents died Nyko's whole family died. Kieryn was an only child so she didn't have any siblings, but Nyko had 2 sisters and a brother, him being the youngest. Nyko is one of Kieryns closest friends. He takes care of her and cares for her. Derym was considered the alpha of the pack, he took care of everyone. But he mostly took care of Kieryn. She wasn't only the smallest, but also the youngest. Everyone except for her and Nyko was over 22. Nyko was 19 and she was still 16. Her stomach started to growl. She rolled out of bed and opened the small refrigerator door. Inside there were bags full of thick red blood. But next to them there were peach flavored yogurts. She grabbed a yogurt and sat on her bed. The wind made the tree branches band against her wall. She heard sniffing outside her door. Then the small pet flap started to move. She saw Nykos head peak out of it. But he wasn't in his human form, he was still Nyko. "What are you doing in here?" Kieryn hissed. "I couldn't fall asleep and I got bored" he shrugged. His voice was deep and raspy, which made Kieryn feel calm and safe. "What do you want me to do? Sing you a lullaby?" She asked sarcastically. "That would be nice" he replied, sitting on her bed then curling into a little ball. His fur was all white, and his eyes were very light blue. She was always jealous of his eyes. "It's past the curfew for being in your wolf form, you're gonna get in trouble, and you're gonna get me in trouble" she said. He rolled his eyes and put his head on her ankle. "Peter whipped me again today" he whispered. She looked down at him. "Let me see the marks" she said. He got up slowly and turned into his human form. Nyko always refused to share his human name, so he was just called Nyko. He took of his shirt and turned around. There was fresh blood and four big gashes in his back, they overlapped the scars on the previous lashes. Kieryn put her yogurt down and stood up. She approached Nyko and touched his cuts, he winced but didn't pull away. "Why does he do this to you?" She asked, concern approaching her voice. "He wants to show dominance, he always threatens me and I can't stop him. Plus he's jealous because we're so close." He says, chuckling. "I'm so sorry Nyko" I say to him. I press my right hang hard against his back. The skin starts to grow over the fresh cuts. After a minute or two, the cuts are just more scars. He sighs and puts his shirt back on. "I should probably leave now." He whispers. "Okay, get some sleep. Goodnight Nyko" I whisper back. He just nods and leaves the room. He doesn't turn back into his wolf self. Nyko has always been different. He hated his human form and would take any chance to stay away from being in it. But I've also always been different. I have multicolored fur. And I'm the only wolf to have the power to heal, I'm the only wolf to have any powers at all.
