Break my Heart: Chapter 11: Somethings not Right.

Ban stood on the stairs, the shattered handrail jabbing into his skin as he stared wide with a crazy look in his eyes as he bit his lower lip; blood trickling down his chin. His whole body shook as he replayed the words the bastard of a look-a-like had said:

"You are impulsive, rude, and use people for your own benefit. You don't think before you speak or act. You will never be good enough with these insecurities you have… That's why he's leaving with me, not you."

The word echoed and spun around in Ban's mind and every time he heard them he got angrier and angrier. He couldn't handle the thought of losing King to this person who looked like him.

'What if King falls in love with him?' Ban thought and suddenly he crushed the handrail completely at the thought. Everyone who had already come back inside suddenly stared at him in surprise. Elaine stood at the bottom of the stairs and stared at Ban reading his mind. Her lips were set into a deep frown at Bans last thought.

'Why is he worried about who the King falls in love with?' Elaine thought as she slowly started to ascend the stairs. Meliodas watched Ban and decided to call out to the man who had wound a dark cloud of fear, anger and worry around himself.

"Hey Ban you good?" He called from his place not far from the door as he shut it behind him. He had waited till King was a far distance away before he came back inside the tavern.

Ban's head snapped up and he looked around frantically looking for the source of the voice. Once found everything fell into place. The feeling that he had lost something and that it was no longer there within his reach. It all made sense, King was gone.

"Did King leave already?" Ban asked frantically as he made eye contact with Meliodas. Meliodas nodded. Elaine reached out and went to grab Bans hand not expecting him to suddenly vault over the railing and run for the door. Ban threw the door open and ran out. As he stared he saw a shiny reflective reflection in the distance on top of a hill. As his eye caught onto it he saw it was Rye he had turned his back and was walking away.

Ban had a direction now. He crouched ready to chase after him till suddenly a small hand slid into his hand stopping him. He looked down and saw Elaine. She looked at him with cautious eyes.

"Why were you going to follow him?" She asked. She gripped his hand hard. His mind was only filled with thoughts of King and she was starting to get jealous.

"Because that guy is dangerous. I can't leave King alone with him!" Ban said panicking over the fact that King had left without saying goodbye to him. Elaine became annoyed as she thought about what he said.

"But you're willing to leave me alone? Your girlfriend?" She said back an angry pout on her face. Ban looked incredulously.

"It's not the same!" Ban said back. As he looked her over. She floated over the ground and stared at him with those wide deep golden eyes.

"How's it not the same! For a while now your thoughts have been guarded and carefully picked through! You only think about King and never once asked to sleep with me again after that night!" She squeaked as she held his hand tightly. She feared that if she let go he would take off after King and the look-a-like.

"You're joking right? I'm just trying to look out for King. He's my comrade. I have to take care of him!" Ban said back and smacked a hand to his forehead. He was getting no-where. "Look, why don't we follow him together? We can make sure he stays safe and have fun seeing the world."

Elaine at this point had tears in her eyes and realized she wouldn't get a straight answer from Ban. She didn't like this but thought she should take a breather before they started fighting.

"Let me think about it." She said and saw the uneasiness on Ban's face. So she read his mind.

'Hopefully we won't lose their trail, but if I want to follow them quickly I'll have to agree with her.' He thought as he looked over his shoulder at the hill behind him. She frowned again. He was extremely invested in King but for what reason she was unsure.

"Ok." Ban said as he looked back at her. She let go of his hand and went back inside. She knew he would at least keep his word. She went and sat down at one of the tables and let the thoughts on her mind swirl around and around as she let her head fall into her hands.

"Hey everything alright Elaine?" Diane asked as she placed a hand on Elaine's shoulder.  Elaine looked up and smiled softly, her golden eyes wet and dim.

"I'm not sure." She said as she looked back down. Diane sat down next to her and leaned on the table.

"Tell me about it." Diane said and smiled softly to reassure the smaller girl fairy.

"Well recently Ban's been acting weird and it seems like somethings not right." Elain said with a furrow of her brows. At that moment Ban came back into the Tavern and headed straight up the stairs to his room. The girls watched him before turning back to their conversation. "See he doesn't even look my way."

"I see…." Diane said and nodded. "How else has he been acting weird?"

"Well after we spent the night together, he started paying attention to my brother. Then it turned to him guarding his thoughts and picking through them. And now all he can think about is Harlequin! He was ready to take off after them just now and leave me behind…." Elaine said softly as she let her head hang low. "He wants me to go with him to follow Harlequin and Rye.."

"Maybe you should." Diane said her cheek in one hand. Elaine looked up at her with shock. "I mean if you go you can do some detective work and see what's going on between the two of them. Maybe you can convince him to tell you out right."

Elaine tapped her chin and thought about it; it did seem like a decent idea. He was bound to let his guard down eventually if she waited enough, and Diane was right, maybe she could get him to tell her what's going on. She slammed her hands on the table top and nodded. She smiled at Diane.

"Thank you!" She said before she flew up the stairs to Ban's room. As she came to the broken door frame she found Ban on the floor packing a bag not only for himself but her as well.

"Did you assume I was going to come with you anyways?" She asked him and his head shot up to look at her. He nodded meekly and smiled.

"I hoped so at least." He said. He went back to packing the bags and counted from one to ten in his head to keep it clear. He had to work on himself if he was gonna win any one over.

"If I say no, and want to stay here would you stay too?" She asked him. He froze in his movements and didn't speak for a while. He slowly looked up at her after a moment with a smile.

"Of course." He said and looked back down but didn't go back to packing. She read his mind and saw he was telling the truth he really would stay. She floated over to him and placed her hand on his shoulder.

"I'll go with you." She said and she smiled at him helping put the items in the small bags.
