Grace:
I walked swiftly out of the bathroom with my head down ready to face Daddy. I thought we had gotten over having someone follow me everywhere about two years ago but apparently not. Part of me knew he was trying to protect me, but a bigger part of me felt like he needed to trust me more.
"Was it something I said?" I heard Eli ask from the bathroom. I couldn't help but smile. Sure I felt bad for pepper spraying him and hitting his nose on the sink but he was being a baby about everything. I appreciated Dick's method of "fixing" Eli because he didn't have time to protest. I knew his eyes would still be red and burn for the next few days but Dick had gotten the majority of the pepper spray out of his eyes and off of his face.
"Gracie." I looked up to see daddy standing by the window with his hands behind his back. Even though I was mad that he had someone follow me I couldn't help but be happy that he was here. He always came when I needed him to be, and for that I was grateful. The past 24 hours had been stressful and I realized I just really wanted a hug.
"Daddy!" I sighed in relief and ran the rest of the way across the room, wrapping my arms around his middle, "I missed you."
"I missed you too Princess." He said as he hugged me back smoothing his hand down my hair. Ever since I was six it had always been my dad and me. He never hired a nanny to take care of me, just body guards to follow me around during school. He took me to work when I was sick and on weekends. I never understood why he didn't hire someone to watch me but I wasn't about to complain. I liked the way things worked between us. Sure I had a few secrets but for the most part I told him everything.
"You're not hurt are you?" He held me away from him looking me up and down to make sure I was still intact. I smiled and went back to hugging him.
"No, just a little head ache." I said trying to memorize his sent. He smelled like an odd combination of ginger and peppermint. I loved the smell.
"That stupid boy let you hit your head." He grumbled pulling away and wrapping an arm around my shoulders.
"It's okay Daddy, it's not his fault." I said smiling up at him.
"Nonsense." Daddy smiled down at me then raised his chin and called out, "Eli, get in here."
"Yes sir?" Eli walked out of the bathroom still trying to dry his dark hair and rubbing his left eye.
"My God what happened to you?" He asked almost horrified.
"Nothing important sir." He said dropping the towel on the bed.
"I pepper sprayed him." I said meekly, "And hit his nose on the sink."
Daddy looked down at me and I blushed. "She did this Fisher?"
"It was my fault sir." Eli said keeping his voice low, "I didn't tell her who I was, she was just trying to protect herself." Daddy grunted but nodded. I didn't understand why Eli didn't just tell on me and was trying to take all the blame.
"Daddy it's not his fault." I sighed and bit my lip, "It's mine he was trying to explain."
"Sir?" Eli blinked a few times, trying to keep the burning in his eyes at bay.
"Yes Fisher?" Daddy sighed like he was getting tired of both of us trying to take the blame.
"It is my fault, I should have been there sooner to prevent anything happening to her." Eli sighed and glanced down at me. His eyes were still that strange neon blue and I was starting to wonder if they were always that color.
"Daddy you really need to stop having people secretly follow me." I told him quietly, looking at the ground. I glanced up at Eli but he looked skeptical.
"I disagree with her sir." He said simply and swallowed like he was about to die.
"Why's that Fisher?" Daddy asked almost amused.
"Excuse me for being blunt, but she can be an idiot when it comes to other people, sir." I gasped at what he said.
"How dare you!" I retorted, extremely offended, "I am not an idiot!"
"You let a strange man walk you to your car." He said looking down at me with a bemused expression, "In the past two weeks I've seen you take shortcuts through alley ways and walk around by yourself in the dark. You jump into people's cars when they offer you a ride, and let strangers give you food." I blushed and stepped a little behind daddy knowing all of this was true. "If anyone needs to be followed constantly for safety, it's you."
"Gracie?" Daddy looked down at me questionably.
"Okay, so maybe I can be a little too trusting." I rolled my eyes as Eli gave out a short laugh, "But I haven't gotten hurt yet, nobody has tried to kill me."
"Until today." Eli put in innocently. Daddy glared at him and Eli stepped back, "Sorry sir." He mumbled.
"Gracie," Daddy sighed, "I'm afraid I have to agree with Eli on this one." I crossed my arms and pouted. "So," Daddy removed his arm from my shoulder, "Until we know more about this recent attack, you'll have 'round the clock protection."
"Sir you don't want to make it too obvious." Eli said, his eyebrows coming together in concern.
"You're right," Daddy said, "That's why only you and Johnson will be watching her."
"What?!" Eli and I exclaimed at the same time.
From the bathroom I heard Dick whoop with joy, "Finally something outside of the office!"
"Shut up Dick!" We both yelled. I turned to Daddy, stepping in front of him.
"Daddy, you can't do this!" I complained, "I am perfectly capable of taking care of myself and staying out of trouble. I thought we agreed no more body guards?"
"Sir don't you think you should put a more skilled agent on this case and put me on something a little less... delicate?" Eli said behind me.
"Gracie, I believe this mornings events have illustrated your need for protection." Daddy said to me and then turned to Eli, "You have proved by saving my daughter that I can trust her life in your hands. However, if you refuse to take this job I can and will fire you. Do you understand Fisher?"
"Yes sir." Eli's voice sounded deflated.
"Gracie?"
"Why can't you just put a tracker on me like you did last time?" I whined.
"A tracker won't stop someone from killing you." He said calmly, "Now both of you, behave. And Gracie, do not under any circumstances try to run away."
"Yes sir." I mumbled, hanging my head.
"Alright," Daddy sighed and pulled me into a hug, "I must go, I have already ordered a car to pick you up in an hour and take you to a new hotel." With that Daddy walked past us. I turned to face Eli who was glaring at me like I just tried to kill him.
"So!" Dick came out of the bathroom, "Who's up for pizza?"
