It had been a year since that day and Theo and Emsé hadn't spoken. After that day Theo began to hang out with the other boys more and more and they spoke less and less until they stopped talking altogether. They passed each other in the halls but never did anything more than make short eye contact. They had kinda been avoiding each other.
Science was the next class, as Esmé was about to walk into the class she saw Theo and his new friends walking up so she hung back a little until they had gone past before going in so that she wouldn't have to talk to them. It was awkward since they hadn't spoken in a year. "Alright class today we are making a google slide presentation pair you can find who your partner is on the google doc I sent you all." the teacher said in a very monotone voice, almost like a robot.
It was a pretty normal day so far until Esmé checked the google doc and her eyes widened, then she scrunched her nose. 'Why does this have to happen today?' she complained to herself in a huff. "Sir, Sir! Can I change partners please? '''' Why?" "cause I um- I just- I can't- i- i- " he walked off before she could finish rambling. Esmé sat at her desk with her face buried in her hands. 'What am I going to say? What am I going to do? Should I be cool? Should I act-' she thought in a rush as someone interrupted her somewhat endless line of thoughts. "Hey." said a familiar voice. She slightly looked up to see Theo standing over her "hey" she replied quietly, refusing to make eye contact. Theo was about to say something but quickly got interrupted by Esmé. the sooner they started the sooner it would finish.
