If you have read any book, you might have come across a hyphen (-). Well, learning about the hyphen is simple, but hard in the same time because it has more than one use. I'm still learning about the hyphen; however, I know enough to teach you. Anyway, the hyphen is the same as a comma, but not a comma in the same time. The reason why it's not the same as a comma is because the whole reason that the hyphen is used when giving irrelevant information in a sentence.  And if you read my first couple chapters, then you might have a good idea when a comma should be used.

Anyway, since the hyphen is similar to a comma, mostly due to the fact that it works the same way as one, then you don't have to worry if you put the irrelevant information between the commas.

Here are a few examples:

Johnny wanted to buy a five-dollar latte--and he had about six dollars on him.

Although sleeping can be a pain in the ass--and mostly because you want to stay in bed afterwards when it's time to wake up--it's important to have a good night's rest.
