JAMIE FELT HERSELF INVOLUNTARILY hurl at the thought of today.

When she said she was hungry, she did not think Juwon would take them out to eat. Nothing was more unappetizing to Jamie than spending time with her manager.

A manager treating their client out for lunch seemed like a thoughtful gesture, but Jamie knew better. She'd known this woman for the better part of two years. Juwon was the kind of woman who kept a checklist for everything in life and followed them to a tee. In her office, a calendar that takes up half the space on a bulletin board is the first thing that catches your attention when you enter. Detailed plans and intricate notes were written on every single tiny square of a date and on extra sticky notes, even for days off. Jamie was almost certain she had a plan for today as well, probably written on that notepad she brings with her everywhere like an off brand Steve from Blues Clues. Wake up at 4AM. Crawl off the ceiling. Take a shower with the ice cold water from a wooden bucket. Eat a single piece of celery. Pluck a single hair from atop Jamie's cranium to add to my oversized metal cauldron's boiling concoction.

Jamie forced herself to stop thinking about checklists before all she'd see when they sat down for lunch was a vampire-witch hybrid.

Juwon also wasn't the small talk kind of person. Meaning this lunch out? Is most likely strictly business. Anything is on the table. Since they'd be in public, Jamie wouldn't be allowed to react as wildly as she probably would at anything Juwon suggests. She wouldn't be allowed to talk back, at least in a way that'll make her seem disrespectful. Juwon was likely using that to her advantage.

It's all a part of Juwon's game. And she was too clever for Jamie's liking.

The smell of a hotel lobby mixed with fine cuisine hit Jamie's nose when she heaved the door open. Juwon had decided on BLT Steak, a quiet, modern steakhouse that had high ceilings, wine glasses and neatly folded cutlery at each cedar table, and a floor to ceiling glass wall that was opposite the street Jamie had just been walking down. The human left in Juwon had sat them at the farthest table away from that wall. But the vampire-witch hybrid part of her didn't tell Jamie to come better dressed. Her hair today fell straight down, and she'd messed her bangs around a bit so they fell to cover most of her forehead instead of coiling around the sides slightly like they did for promotions. She wore a yellow, low-cut turtleneck that clashed with the neutral tones of white, black, and gray that sat at every other table. Light blue, straight-legged jeans that cut off a few inches above her ankles and ripped at the seams were paired with white, low top sneakers, stained and dirtied after years of use.

Juwon blended in nicely with everyone else. She was wearing a black blazer, dressed overtop a white dress shirt. Her hair was twisted nicely into a tight, low bun, and not a single stray hair escaped it's hold thanks to the abundance of bobby pins and gel Juwon used to slick back her hair. Jamie hadn't noticed her matching black dress pants and pumps until she set her tote bag down onto the floor. The same stern, tired look she always wore was still faithfully attached to her eyebrows and lips, pulling them into a slight frown.
