For the next few nights, I didn't see Cole. I didn't understand what happened. The next weekend it was 12am and I decided to listen to the night sounds out of the window. I stopped and stared at something, " Cole?!"
Cole turned quickly, " Isla? I didn't know you were out here."
" Yeah well I didn't think I'd ever see you again, so...." I trailed off.
" It doesn't matter, you shouldn't," he just stood there.
" What's wrong with you? You're acting weird," I said quickly.
" Now's not the time, you can't know," he picks up a stick.
" What do you mean?" I asked confused.
" Like I said, you can't know," he throws it into the woods.
" Why?"
" If you did, it'd cause too much. Pretty sure you'd go off, freaking out telling your mommy."
" She's not even here, actually," I said proudly.
" Well, let's just put it this way, if you were ever to see something unnatural, what would you do?"
" I'd be scared," I said honestly.
" Exactly," he said, " Now go to bed, it's late."
" What about you?"
" I can't," he turned and walked away again.
I was confused as to why he always randomly left.

........
The next night I had noticed a pattern, he'd always be out at 12. So that was what I planned to do, go outside at 12.
I snuck out the front door and walked quietly to my window, where Cole usually was. I saw him around the corner, he glanced up to my window and kept walking towards it.
" Hey!" I called to him.
He jumped and turned, " Isla, what are you doing out here?"
" I can to see you," well, I never expected myself to ever say that.
" It shouldn't be something of habit," he said.
" Why's that?"
" Don't worry," he said
I took a step into the wet mud, and I began to slip.
Cole quickly came forward, and I tried to grasp him, but my hand went through him.
