After eating, Sydney and Javonte are in their room.
"So what did he say?", asked Javonte.
"He got a promotion and was wondering if I wanted Sayora to finally live with me... well me and you now", said Sydney.
"That's what you want right?", asked Javonte. "Let's do it."
Sydney didn't say anything.
"I guess I might as well say this but I was ease dropping. I already know the conversation before he whispered in your ear and y'all got to whispering", said Javonte.
Sydney looks down.
"I told you about that shit", said Javonte.
"I can't not help what he does, Von", said Sydney. "I don't wanna argue. You aren't going to do anything but get all upset and black out. It doesn't matter what I say or what I don't say. And please...I'm not your child, so don't talk to me like I'm one."
"You acting like one. You act like you can be upfront with me. What in the hell were y'all whispering about?", asked Javonte.
"That. He was asking me about the shit you do. Everybody does and I have to lie.", said Sydney.
"Tell them the truth then. Tell them I've done it a couple of time and watch—"
"A couple?", asked Sydney.
"Okay a few", said Javonte. But if you tell them, they'll be telling you what you need to. Do you really want that? Do you really wanna be looked at as "oh she's stupid for being with him"? You know I'm trying to stop. They aren't going to understand that."
"I know", said Sydney. "I know....I guess what I wanna know is when will it stop. It's been a little over a year since we got married. I mean it's not like you put your hands on me everyday but you've done it more than enough. Four times to be exact. Now I know I said I'd be patient with you and I meant that but it's only so much patience that I can have...I don't wanna get to the point where I have to kill you in order to survive."
"Sydney...maybe you won't have to. But I do know one thing, you're not leaving me.", said Javonte. "So if you think you will one day...just know that might have to be the day you kill me."
Sydney didn't say anything. She felt sad but at the same time scared. She knew Javonte loved her deeply but she didn't want it to get to the point where she had to kill the man that she loved just as deeply.
"Like you said, I don't hit you frequently. It's just every now and then. Lately I haven't even left a bruise. I'm doing better.", said Javonte. "Maybe if you didn't talk crazy to me, I wouldn't do it"
"But I want it to stop okay? I don't want my son to see that and damn sure don't want my daughter to see it", said Sydney. "It shouldn't matter what I say to you. You don't have to put your hands on me."
"Is this why you're hesitant about Say staying with us? You don't believe I can change?", asked Javonte.
"I'm tired of you trying to change the blame.", said Sydney.
"What?", asked Javonte.
"Every time we argue, you shift the argue from me to you. You try to play victim", said Sydney.
"So you the victim?", asked Javonte.
"I'm not saying that.", said Sydney.
"You know what, fuck this. I'm not about to listen to this shit. I'll sleep on the floor in Xavier's room", said Javonte.
"Von—"
"I'm done talking", said Javonte before he walked out of the room.
Sydney sighs.
She knew what he was doing and she was done changing the topic of conversation.
Sydney follows Javonte.
"You can sleep in his room all you want. It doesn't matter to me. Just know that you have to go to work and if he's crying he will continue to wait you up", said Sydney.
"I don't work tomorrow", said Javonte.
"Oh well..then I guess you'll be all ears if he cries", said Sydney before walking back into their room.
Javonte rolled his eyes.
Later on that night, Sydney is awaken by Xavier crying. Javonte brought him in room because Xavier was hungry and he just got called into work.
"Give him to me", said Sydney.
Javonte hands Xavier to Sydney.
"I gotta go to work. I just got called in", said Javonte.
"Ok", said Sydney.
Javonte grabs his shoes and walks out the room.
Sydney takes one of her boobs out and breastfeeds Xavier until he went back to sleep. When he did, she put him in the basinet that they had in their room.
Sydney stands there and admires Xavier.
"Maybe you can help daddy be better", said Sydney. "...I love you and you are a blessing... it doesn't matter if your dad rushed this even though I told him I wasn't ready...I was filled with joy the moment I saw you on the ultasound. So was he. So in a sense I'm glad I didn't prevent it...but in a sense I wish I did because I have no idea how this will play out. Regardless of how it does...you'll be okay."
Sydney walks to the bed and gets under the covers.
