He gave a small smile down at me. It was a polite smile and I quickly turned on my heels and headed back toward the club. I could feel him walking close behind me and every now and then I would glance back at him as we continued to walk into the club.
I have never invited a man to do anything with me and I was a little nervous but I at least owed it to him to buy him a drink. I didn't expect him to hang out or talk with me. I honestly just felt bad because I think I was being mean. He did help me out whether I like to admit it or not.
Once we reached my booth I sat down and slid over to where my shoes were discarded on the floor and put them on quickly. I smiled nervously at him as he sat next to me. The waitress came over and ordered our drinks. Once she was gone I peered over at him again, with my head tilted down. We locked eyes for a moment and I decided that I should end this awkward silence.
"You know you don't have to stay right."
I leaned over speaking into his ear.
"It's really okay, you can take your drink when it comes and leave, I really don't mind."
He just stared at me. Not saying a word, as if he was trying to read me.
"Are you just going to stare?" I questioned.
Squirming in my seat as his eyes burned a hole into my body, his gaze travelled from my face to my curled hands in my lap.
"I'm sorry, I don't mean to stare, it's just that you are a very interesting woman, very beautiful as well."
He leaned over as he said this. I was shocked by what he said, it was unexpecting. No one really complements me often, I like to hide from the world.
"Okay" I laughed nervously.
"Does that mean you are going to stick around for a bit?" I smiled at him.
"Yeah, sorry I'm not one for small talk." He said honestly.
I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding in. Relief came over me that I didn't just let some random crazy man sit with me at our table. The waiter finally showed up with some drinks and I couldn't be happier. I took a big swig of mine, needing to relax. He continued to stare at me, and in a desperate need to start a conversation I asked, gazing at him.
" So.... how old are you?"
We made eye contact for what felt like forever when he replied.
"Isn't it rude to ask people their age?"
"Oh," I said quietly, "...sorry."
He said quickly, almost nervously.
"I didn't mean to be rude, I was only joking. I'm 28."
I left out a small gasp of surprise at how young he appeared. Being 20 years old and seeing this man I just met who looked the same age but was older than me was a shock. Luciano noticed my surprise.
"What? Is it bad to be 28? Aren't you like 24, 25?"
I left out a laugh, the big gulp of my drink hitting me slightly. I leaned over placing a hand on his shoulder, laughing some more and looked at him, with a smile on my face.
"I just turned 20, in fact, I literally just turned 20. It's my birthday today."
His eyes widened, it was his turn to be in shock.
"You seem much older than you are, more mature but Happy Birthday." He smiled and when a waiter walked past he called him over and ordered more drinks saying something about how he'll buy me a drink for my birthday.
