Emily Prentiss: Landed safely in London.
Tara Lewis: Glad to hear it. How was your flight?
Emily Prentiss: Long. Boring. I finished my book about halfway through, so I had nothing to read for over three hours.
Tara Lewis: Oh no, that's the absolute worst! That happened to me the last time I had jury duty, and it felt like torture.
That was how it began, whatever "it" was. They'd worked a case together, had a one-night stand; they could have left it at that, but they didn't. Instead, they kept talking, letting their brief encounter turn into...a friendship, maybe...something more, possibly—definitely not a relationship, though. A correspondence. The texts kept coming, easily, naturally, organically, as though they'd been talking to each other for ages, and neither of them wanted it to stop.

Emily Prentiss: So you're back from Sacramento?
Tara Lewis: Yeah, just landed like an hour ago.
Emily Prentiss: How was it?
Tara Lewis: Really weird
Emily Prentiss: So just another BAU case then?
Tara Lewis: This one was a little extra weird. But now we all have a few days off, and I am going to forget about work and enjoy it.
Emily Prentiss: Nice. Any big plans?
Tara Lewis: Probably just helping my dad out around his garage.
Emily Prentiss: I thought you said you were going to enjoy your time off.
Tara Lewis: That is enjoyable! Especially when he gets really cool vintage cars in his shop.
Emily Prentiss: So what do you do, help him fix them up?
Tara Lewis: Restore them, yes. We've been working on cars together since I was a teenager.
Emily Prentiss: Okay, that's actually really sweet.
Tara Lewis: Yeah, it's great. He taught me everything I know, and he helped me restore my car.
Emily Prentiss: Your car?
Tara Lewis: A 1970 Opel GT. I spent 5 years working on it.
Emily Prentiss: Do you actually drive it?
Tara Lewis: Not as my regular, everyday mode of transportation, but yes. I drive it a lot for fun.
Emily Prentiss: I'm not really a car person, but that's very cool.
Tara Lewis: Thanks. If you're ever back in D.C., maybe I'll take you for a drive.
If you're ever back in D.C...Emily smiled at the message and the implication. They'd never actually discussed the possibility of seeing each other again, but Emily hoped it might be on the table. Apparently, Tara did, too. It wasn't a plan; it wasn't even a promise. That was still too big of a leap for either of them to take. But for now, Emily was happy just knowing that if she ever found herself back in D.C., Tara might take her for a drive.

Tara Lewis: Want to hear about the prank JJ and I just pulled on Reid?
Emily Prentiss: YES
