Chapter 6: Envy Is Clever

Envy takes over your life. It starts out innocent, and nice! Wanting to be like your idol. First you start doing things they do, eating things they eat. Everyone around you starts noticing a change in your behavior, acting exactly like them, dressing like them. Then... It goes too far. You start being mean to people you love. You start becoming obsessed with the person who your envious of. You only talk about them, you have pictures of them all over your walls, on your floor. You start going insane with the obsession, harassing them if you see them in real life. You spend all your money to look like them, when in reality... they don't even know that you exist.

Back In Purgatory...

Nene was on her knees, her bloody hands in front of her. Jobe ran into the auditorium room, seeing Sophia's body. 21 stab wounds. He tried waking her up, but she was gone. "Soph! Soph..." Jobe cried. The mysterious man walked into the auditorium room through the big entrance with the 4th artifact in his hand. "A sacrifice needed to be made to kill the beast. I gave you false directions on purpose. I tried to give a hint unto you all, but you did not heed my warning." Jobe looked up at him and snatched the artifact from his hands. "Go to Hell." He said. He hit the man on the head with the artifact. Jobe walked into the other room where everyone was. Everyone was just staring at Nene. They were afraid of her. Then Elijah and Kayla looked at each other. "Oh no..." Elijah said. "I think Sean is waking us up."
Kayla ran to Lilah. She put her hands on her face. "You can make it. You can leave! Do it for me!"
Lilah nodded. "I will, I promise."
Kayla moved forward, kissing Lilah. Lilah kissed as well. Elijah went up to Ava. "Your gonna make it out! I know it!" He said. "I love you!" Ava said. "I love you too!" Elijah replied. Ava gripped Elijah with her hands, she felt him. So did Lilah, she felt Kayla. She felt her lips, she felt her hands on her face. Ava swore that she felt Elijah's body, but that wouldn't matter anymore. Him and Kayla disappeared as each of them were together. Jobe had a mad/exhausted expression on his face. "Fuck this place." Jobe raised the artifact into the air and they moved to the 5th layer of Purgatory.

Salem Massachusetts, 1982...

At a high school in Salem Massachusetts was relatively quiet. It was a quiet town. There were a few people who were the "popular" kids in school. Jessica Hewitt, and a group of 3 boys. Scott Wells, Greg Urus, and Keith Montgomery. Everyone had friends, everyone was in their own duo or trio, that's how it had to be. No one else was in a squad like them. There was one who never had any friends. A girl named Isabell Martins. She was a loner, she also had bad acne. Everyone would call her pepperoni face. The teacher didn't do anything either. Isabelle was envious of Jessica, all the boys wanted her. And she was friends with Keith. She would go to the teachers restrooms to cry when they would make fun of her, at least until a teacher caught her in there and told her not to go in there anymore. The main bullies were 3 of the popular kids. 1 of them was nice to her when alone, but was too scared of them to stick up for Isabelle. She had a crush on him, his name was Keith.
It was the middle of December, which meant that Prom was in a few days, Isabelle decided that she was going to go to it.
"What the hell is happening?" Jessica yelled. She saw the back of a girl in a green sparkly dress floating in the air.

Back in Purgatory, June 16th, 2022...

This layer's environment was a murky green color. There were no clouds, just the smell of perfume. "It smells like the Thank u, Next perfume." Ava said.
"The only good thing about this place." Lilah said.
The smell of Ariana Grande perfume soon turned to a different smell. Bombshell perfume from Victoria's Secret. The smell would change every few minutes, and sometimes it would just go away. They started looking around for clues and things like that when they heard noise coming from a big abandoned building. They ran to it, dust from the sand under their feet blowing away from the building. They walked into the building, there was a platform with stairs leading to the ground. A green light was forming on top of it. And it was blowing everything away from it. They saw something in the light. The light was a portal. A hand reached out of it, "Ahh!" They screamed. The hand was pale, and it didn't have any nails. The hand ripped the portal, making it bigger. Then another hand reached through it. She crawled out of it, her body contorted out of the portal and fell. Onto the floor, she uncontorted herself, standing up. Her hands grew into claws, and her mouth cracked to her ears, teeth grew in her mouth as her tongue reached out, making drool fall from her mouth. "Run bitches!" Nene yelled. The girl monster started chasing after them. Jobe turned around for a second. Taking in her image. She was wearing a sparkly sage green dress. A silver crown with an emerald jewel in the middle. Her hair was curly, and she wasn't wearing any shoes. He remembered the vision he had earlier. He realized that this was the girl he saw in the vision. He had seen the future. Then he saw her stop running. She started breathing out green fog that blew towards them in a matter of seconds, as they breathed more of it in, they started to black out and collapse. "Hold your breath!" Jobe yelled. Him and Ella held their breath before it was too late, they put their shirts over their face to breathe in air, but as the fog went over their knocked out friends, they saw them disappear. As they looked where the monster had been standing, they came to realize that she wasn't standing there anymore. "What the hell happened to them?" Jobe questioned.
"I don't know, but we need to find them." Ella said.
They walked over to the big building, and went up a flight of stairs. They walked into a room, as they walked into it the door behind them slammed shut, shaking the entire room. "Shit!" Jobe ran to the door, yanking on the knob with all of his might. It didn't budge... Him and Ella were stuck. Suddenly a drawer in front of them popped open. There was a scroll inside. Ella unraveled the scroll, "You must find a way out of this room within 30 minutes, if you do not, sand will fill up the room and you will suffocate in it, leaving your friends helpless. If you escape this room, I will tell you where they are. Hurry because your time has already started." Sand started to slowly pour out of vents that were on the ceiling. They looked in some cabinets and found a locked box. "We need to find a key for this." Ella said. They looked around for a key and Jobe found a card, the floor was now filled with sand, and so were their shoes. Ella found a card, "Jobe come here!" She shouted. She read the card, "Wise words from the lion."
Then Jobe looked around, he saw something shiny in the mouth of a lion's head that was hanging on the wall. He walked over to the head, stretched his arm into the air and jumped up to grab the key out of it. He got it out and then unlocked the box. There was a clear container in it. There was a cup, and a small metal rod. There was a paper taped to the container, they had to get the rod into the gummy with paper clips in the file cabinet next to them. The sand was now at their waist, and they were having to shuffle through it. The air was getting stuffy, and it was starting to get hard to breathe. Ella picked up a paper clip and molded it into a hook shaped piece of metal. They couldn't touch anything in the container with their hands, and could only touch the objects by using paper clips. She got the hook shaped paper clip, slipped it under the cup, and lifted it up, she got it. The gummy ring was under that cup. Jobe was holding the iron rod with a paperclip on top of the cup so it didn't fall to the bottom of the container. The card said not to let it hit the bottom, and they didn't want to find out what would happen if they did. She picked up the gummy with the hook and Jobe stretched open the gummy with his paperclip. Ella made the end of the hook into a little circle that could fit the rod inside of it. As the rod was a quarter off of the cup, Ella put it in the hole and carefully put it into the hole in the gummy. It was getting really hard to breathe. Ella flipped the cup with her paper clip hook-thing, and Jobe put the rod that was in the gummy into the cup. Then... the sand stopped pouring from the vents, and they heard a click come from the door. They climbed out of the sand, and dug into the sand in front of the door to get to the door knob with their hands. Jobe opened the door and sand poured out of the room. They darted out inhaling the fresh, perfume-smelling air. "Wait, what do we do now?" Ella said. "I thought we were supposed to find out where everyone was-"
"Help us!" A voice shouted from above them. "Where are we!" Another voice shouted. Jobe and Ella looked at each other, and immediately bolted up the stairs, they followed the sound of the screams and found themselves at a wooden door. Jobe opened the door, Ella and Jobe saw her friends tied to a large piece of wood unable to move. Under them was bubbling acid. They saw the monster girl in the sparkly green dress. She slipped her tongue into her mouth as she said this, "Pick two of your friends to fight for their lives," she said this with a lisp from the big tongue in her mouth that made it hard for her to talk. They saw Soterio tied to the piece of wood, and realized that they could choose him to fight as well. Him and Ella talked about it with each other, and decided that the person who would go with Soterio would be Jessie. She hadn't done much to help the group, and she was not as close to them as everyone else whose life was on the line. "We made a decision!" Ella yelled. "Soterio and Jessie, you guys are going into the death challenge." She said.
"Why! I helped you guys!" Jessie said. "I thought we were starting to grow our bond again. I guess not." Soterio said.
Ella and Jobe felt sad, they didn't have a choice. Then the monster girl closed her eyes she reached her left arm at the people who were tied to the big log of wood in the middle of the room. "Wait the acid!" Jobe yelled. The monster girls torn open mouth opened wider with a smile, her teeth were showing, it was then that they realized how scary she was. The scariest monsters they had ever seen. The scariest monsters they had seen so far was Thusula from Death Valley, and Infinito from Pandora's Box. She was on the top of the list now... she had claws for hands, and could use telekinesis. She had about 50 teeth in her mouth. Everyone who fell into the pit of green acid screamed, not in pain, in fright. The bubbling green liquid below them wasn't acid. It was bubbling water with green dye. The monster girl started giggling. "Stupid mortals." She said with a lisp from her gargantuan teeth and long tongue. Then she reached out her right arm and lifted Jessie and Soterio with her powers. Then she threw them into the room behind them and slammed the door shut. Jessie and Soterio banged on the door with all of their might, but it did nothing. The door was locked, and made of iron. Then everyone climbed out of the pool of "acid." They were all soaking wet.
Ava went to hug Ella, Ella made a concerned face after. Now that her clothes were all wet. She had taken off the dress she wore to the ball at Death Valley, she had a sage green shirt on under her dress.
In the locked room were 2 pedestals. There was a clear glass container hidden in the room, inside of it was a little piece of metal that had the monster girl's name engraved in it. That would give them dominion over her, and when that would be given, they could force her to tell them where the artifact was. There was a hint hidden on each of the pedestals on a piece of paper. There were lots of boxes in the room, and after Jessie and Soterio read them, they started looking in the boxes. As Soterio opened one up, he saw that there was nothing but hay inside of it. To find the container probably meant that they would have to search through the 20 boxes of hay to find it. After a while of searching, Soterio found the glass container in one of the boxes. He held it up in the air, but as he did... Jessie took off her purple heels and threw it at Soterios head, "Agh!" He screamed. "Bitch, I'm not dying again!" Jessie shouted. The glass container shattered, the piece of metal with her name on it being out of the case. Now it was up to whoever touched it first. Jessie dove to the ground to touch it, glass getting stuck in her arm. "Shit!" She yelled. She touched it, sealing Soterios fate. A sense of pain and relief went down her body. Then the doors bursted open. Her name, the monster girl's name... it was Isabell. They saw her as she ran up to Soterio, lifting him up with one of her 2 giant claws. Then she opened her mouth, even wider than it already was... and in a moment of seconds Soterio was gone. Everyone stood in awe as they witnessed the death of Soterio.
