Author POV
Wu was begging her mother,Huan ming. Begging her to not leave her, lee and their father all alone. But her mother was not kind enough. It was like she couldn't hear her voice at all. She ignored her cries and begs to stay and not go.
Her mother never cared if Wu was fed or not. She never bothered to ask Wu about her health, studies or anything. She was always in her own world. She never considered Wu and Lee as her daughters. She was always in her own world, valued luxury and expensive, worldly things, never noticing how much her daughters and husband are being neglected. It was when her mother finally divorced her husband. Because she had found a new man for herself who could give her all the luxury she likes, who could buy her all expensive jewelry she likes, unlike Wu's father who always tried his best to give her everything. Who always said that the future of their daughters is more important than anything.
Wu was begging her mother by getting on her knees. Begging her mom that she would do anything to make her stay. Promising that if she was disappointed with her results then she would do better in studies. Promising that she would do all the chores of the house. And if father's money was not enough, then she would also find a job for herself to have enough money to buy her mother whatever she likes. But her mother didn't hear a single word.
In just a blink, Wu was laying at the ground helplessly. Her mother stepped on Wu's hand with her hard heel. Making Wu scream in pain and look at her mother with teary and scared eyes.
Her mother pressed her heel more on her hand almost as if she could peirce her hand if it was possible. She looked at Wu with angry eyes and said in a cold voice,"Listen here you pathetic little child, don't think that I love you just because I've given birth to you. You sisters are just a mere disappointment, a mistake in my life. Marrying your father was a mistake itself. I just fell for his money but I didn't knew that he was caring that he spends almost all the money for the wellbeing of his family. He just wastes all his money on orphan children. So don't think that I ever loved you. Your pathetic presence can give nothing to me. I have far more bigger dreams to achieve than to just be a mother of two children and take care of them for the rest of my life."
"But isn't that what mothers do?"
Wu asked ignoring the fact that her wrist was still being pressed by her mother's heel. It pressed too much that it must've left it's mark by now. "Isn't it true that mothers care for their children after they are born? Don't they love them? Isn't that what mothers do? Devote  their whole life to their children? Don't they breath a breathe of relief when they see their child smiling? Aren't a mother and a child connected to each other? Isn't it true that a mother has an unbreakable bond with her child?" Yes, she always wondered why her mother behaved like that towards her.

Seeing other children play with their mom, and their moms giggling and smiling along with them made her jealous sometimes. She wondered if she could get the same type of love from her mother. It was her dream that whenever she would get scared, she could run to her mom and hide in her embrace. But her dream never became true. Instead the wish died within itself when Wu realized that her mom never valued her or anyone in her life. To know that her presence was disappointing to her, just made her heart break into pieces.

She never expected love from anyone ever again, though she never let this trauma of hers to take over her, she still tried to smile even though she was hurt from inside.
But the death of her father and sister was devastating and it was the second time that her heart broke. And that was the end of the joyful Wu, and a start of a new Wu, who never smiled and never talked to anyone.
