Hermione sat in the common room at seven doing homework, when Harry stormed in.
"Kept me in every time I didn't have a class, had lunch and dinner with her, with Professor Soy. Kept telling me how brave I was and that she has has a crush on me for a very long time," Harry threw up his hand in exasperation,"she wants me to go out with her the next time we go to Hogsmede, which is awfully soon."
Hermione looked at him and raised an eyebrow," just give her a chance."
Harry stared at her," I can't, she was just being perpetual with the compliments, and how she would love if we dated. She is one year older than me and a niece of Mcgonagall's, which makes it more annoying!"
Hermione looked at him with much distaste," you are so judgemental, give her a chance!"
Harry glared at her as Ron walked into the room. Hermione stood up and left the common room. Hermione's heart thumped in her chest, why couldn't Harry just give her a chance, he could go out with her once and then say that the relationship just couldn't work out. As she walked into the prefect common room with all of her homework. She sat there, tears starting to well up in her eyes, but she didn't know why, she thought that she was okay and wiped the tears from her eyes. She listened, never looking up, as the door opened.
"Homework?" came a masculine voice.
Hermione looked up to see Malfoy leaning on the door, "you've been crying."
Hermione wiped the tears from her eyes," just got into a fight with Harry, why am I even telling you this?" She said through in hands up in the air, and looking slightly flustered.
Malfoy propped himself against an armchair," I am only curious," he smiled a wry smile.
"I don't suppose you really care, that is all."
"I overheard Mcgonagall talking about a ball to celebrate the rebirth of the school grounds, since it was destroyed. She is going to prepare the ball, and I want you to come with me," Draco said, ever so nervous.
Hermione stared at him and almost fainted." You want me, the mudblood. The person who has ruined your life, and I would go out with you, even though u am already going out with Ron!" Rage boiling up in her.
Draco looked at her self-consciously. Hermione stared at him, shock showing in every corner of her face.
"I understand if you don't want to," Draco said, starting to think he had made a mistake.
"I'll think about it," Hermione muttered, and left the room, leaving Malfoy staring after her.

The next morning in the great hall Hermione sat with Ron. Harry was still being slightly moody towards Hermione. Everyone turned to face the front to see Mcgonagall calling everyone to attention.
"This year, we are hoping to host a ball to celebrate the school being repaired, and to remember all those people who died fighting," Hermione heard Harry give a slow gulp," we will expect everyone to have partners," she looked around then shouted," let the feast begin!"
Ron turned to Hermione a asked if he would like to go with him to the ball, while Harry asked Ginny and she happily said yes.
Hermione looked at Ron nervously and said,"no," she choked, tears threatening to spill.
Hermione swung around a corner and burst into tears. She spotted Draco coming towards her," DID YOU WISH THIS TO HAPPEN, FOR ME TO BREAK A HEART SINCE I PROMISED YOU I WOULD!"
Draco looked at her and sighed," I did not mean this to happen, we will only have one dance, and then you can go off with Ron."
"BUT DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND, I HAVE ALREADY SAID NO!"
Draco nodded, and walked away, leaving Hermione weeping on the cold stone floor of the entrance hall.
