The Underlander Warrior

Chapter 1

"Lina! Come down right now!!" I hear my mother shout in the arena. The arena is where we all train and hang out. I live in a place called the under land I've lived here my whole life. Ever since I was little I started getting trained too be a guard or a soldier. And may I just say I'm damn good at what I do. Mareth is thinking of promoting me too be a teacher and help train the younger underlanders. 

I let out a large groan and roll my eyes. "Yes warden?" I shout looking over my Fliers shoulder at down thirty feet too the arena floor where my mother stand arms crossed her usual scowl on her pinched wrinkled face. As you can tell I very much dislike my mother. 

"Do your rounds, quit fooling around like a damn moron you know better then this!" She sighs sounding exhausted. "Your a weapon Lina start acting like one." 

A weapon. So that's the excuse too emotionally abuse me fun. "Copy that." I say in almost a whisper. I lay down on my back my flier Axels fur warping around me like a nice blanket. My Flier also known as a Bat in the Overland. Is my bond, and my best friend. My only friend besides Mareth really. Axel has pitch black fur, he blends right into the night. I wish I matches him but I'm like everyone else in the underhand pale white skin. White hair. And violet eyes. Skin so pale I can see every vein in my body. 

I close my eyes and let out a long sigh. "A weapon huh dearest human." He purrs. 

I let a short laugh. "Yeah, its what we've trained for though. So I guess we are weapons." He murmurs a sarcastic response I don't feel compelled to respond too and just relax into him. Me and Axel have been Bonded since i was six and he was a year which in Flier years is the same age as me. I am now fifteen so its been nine years since we recited the vow. It was like. 

"Axel the flier, i bond to you, our life and death are one we two. In dark, in flame, in war, in strife, i save you as i save my life." 

And Axel said his line. "Lina the Underlander, i bond to you, our life and death are one, we two. In dark, in flame, in war, in strife. I save you as i save my life." And with that we were bonded. We were younger then most. Mom tried talking me out of it saying I wasn't ready but Mareth helped me and we bonded and Mareth took us for a celebration after. That was one of the best days I've ever had. 

We do our rounds, that takes a little up too an hour before we return and join in a game with everyone else. We toss around a ball. Some of us fall off our bonds and they catch us. It's all good fun. We're at this for a good half hour before everything stops, it all goes quiet. No silent, deadly silent. I'm instantly on my guard. 

"Lina." Axel purrs. "Sit up and watch." 

I sit up perplexed. And lay on my stomach looking over his shoulder. I'm watching the entrance from the tunnels along with everyone our eyes glued too the two kids who ran in with a  band of crawlers maybe a half dozen. Ones maybe two with brown Curley hair in a stained t-shirt. She's riding on one of the crawlers backs. The other is maybe 11 with shaggy brown hair chasing after her as she jumps off and sprints too the middle of the field. 

I'm watching more interested now. Then a girl drops maybe ten feet above the ground from her bond. I know who it is right away. It's our princess our future leader Luxa she's around the Boys age she's 11. She lands perfectly and holds out the ball to the little girl but does it in a very taunting way. But the little girl pokes her in the eye and Luxa drops the ball reeling back. I bite back a laugh. 

"Hey Ax, lets go train we can learn more of this later." I say sitting up again. He agrees and we  take off flying. 

We train for a little over two hours. Doing cardio and muscle building. I used target practice. Axel trained his turns and twists like how too do motions quickly and correctly. Afterwords we took off for home. We live up at the castle cause i help rounds plus Vikus and Mareth had a conversation about my mother and Mareth took guardianship over me and i now live in his three person apartment. I'm very greatful too him. I fall asleep on the couch axel in the room he shares with Andromeda, Mareths flier.
