𝐀𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 take off your headphones you hear your twin sister belly loudly singing. "belly shut up!" you hear your older brother steven yell as he turns down the music. every year during the summer you drive up to cousins beach to visit the fishers. your moms best friend, susanna, has a beach house you practically grew up in. every year you always look forward to this moment, the arrival. you wonder how the boys have changed and you look forward to going to the beach, but this year was different. you have grown up, weather you like it or not. for some reason your not eager to run to the beach or prank the boys in their sleep, and you know belly feels the same way.
belly's your best friend, of course you will never actually tell her that. shes your twin sister and you would never let her know how much you actually care about her. there has never been a time that you wished belly wasn't right by your side. you talk about things you would never tell anyone else, not even your best friend annie who you have been friends with since the second grade. summer has been your favorite time of the year for as long as you can remember, belly has also liked conrad for as long as you remember. she used to talk about him every night as you got ready for bed, how he helped her or how he stood up for her, you always pretended to listen but you always thought it was bullshit. how she could think anything he did was so great, but maybe you always were secretly jealous that the boys payed more attention to her.
after your mom talked about the basic rules of the summer you arrived at the house. it always looks the same and that's what makes you so happy, you always have one thing that wont ever change. steven honks the horn to signify that your here and need help bringing in the bags. susanna and the boys always come flying down the stairs before we even open the doors of the car, but this year only the boys came. jeremiah hugged you first before quickly dabbing up steven. you watched belly look around, and you knew who she was looking for, conrad. he eventually walked to the front of the house and said hi. you let him and belly talk as you make your way to the other part of the group. "where is susanna?" laurel asks, as you begin wondering the same thing. jeremiah explains that she is sleeping and will be up shortly to say hello. You cant help but wonder if jeremiah got taller or more muscular, how his teeth are almost brighter and his smile is contagious. But you don't say anything about it, you just get belly and tell her to grab her bag and come upstairs with you.
