June didn't remember when Billy left, all she remembered was laying on his shoulder, then waking up in her bed as if nothing had happened at all. She wondered if their interaction was nothing more than a dream.
When she looked over at her clock, she noticed that it was 10 minutes 'til Steve would normally pick her up for school. She got up and practically tore through her closet, looking for anything that might be easy to put on.
Finally, she ended up with her new Ghostbusters T-shirt and a pair of high-waisted acid-washed jeans that she rolled up over her ankles. Then she pulled a black and red flannel shirt over her shoulder and tugged on her pair of beat-up old white converse. Quickly grabbing her bag, she pushed her glasses up on her face, knowing she didn't have time to put her contacts in.
Suddenly, she heard two honks from outside. Steve's signal that he was there.
Landing out on the roof again, she pulled tight the messy ponytail at the back of her head, tendrils of her bangs still covering the side of her face. Carefully maneuvering down the side of the house, she landed on the ground in one piece.
"Sorry, Steve, I tried to be as fast as possible!" I announced, practically fumbling into his car.
"What's with the bifocals, huh? Are you going as a nerd for Halloween or something?" Steve squinted at her, turning the key in the ignition to stir the car awake.
"Wow, really buying into that stereotype of the smart girl, aren't you Harrington?" June rolled her eyes. "And I don't wear bifocals, asshat."
"Jeez, I'm sorry I said anything," Steve scoffed defensively, lifting his hands from the steering wheel surrender-style
"Just drive Harrington," June grumbled passively, shoving her bag down to her feet.
"Looks like someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today, what's up with you this morning?" Steve questioned, looking backward as he pulled out of the driveway of June's house.
"I'm sorry Stevie...I just forgot to set my alarm last night, so I woke up late and basically didn't have any time to get ready this morning. That's why I'm dressed like this," She gestured to her clothing, "And these," She continued, pointing to the glasses on the bridge of her nose.
"Oh, I thought you were just going for a different look." Steve meekly laughed, turning into the parking lot of the High School. "It works for you."
She blushed at his compliment before nodding her head at him and whispering a quick "Thank you, Steve," As he parked in his designated spot in the Senior Parking Lot.
Fearing she might be late, to class, and trying to let Steve have alone time with Nancy before class started, June pushed open the car door, urgently grabbed her bag, and dashed into the school building.
"June, since when do you dress so well?!" Robin asked, approaching June wearing virtually the same outfit except with a plain black T-shirt and a Hawaiian shirt over that.
June laughed, shaking her head and giving her best friends a gentle hug. "Rob, you are the single greatest person in this world, you know that yeah?"
Robin scrunched up her nose, clearly confused about what the purpose of the sudden compliment was. "You okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine!" June assured, ending the hug and returning to the contents of her locker.
"Okay. Just makin' sure. I'm gonna go steal Vickie's pudding now." Robin excused herself, pointing to the hallway behind her before dashing after the short red-head. June giggled light-heartedly at her friend's goofiness.
