Mia was still. She wasn't sure where all the pieces were falling or how to put the puzzle together for it to make sense.

"The Architect's men..." she whispered to herself. What were they doing here? They laid a trap in the road and ambushed them. Why? Because of her? How did they know she existed? How did they know where she was?

Then it clicked. They weren't following her.

"They were following you." She looked over at Lora. She was short of breath and leaning against a tree. Clearly using the crystal took a lot out of her.

Lora nodded. "I figured they were. Once I knew they were, I fell behind to try and get some distance between us but then this happened and-"

"So you knew they were following you and you still came to see me anyway?" Mia couldn't believe it. Every second around this woman she got worse and worse. Did she care at all? Who even was she?

Lora paused and took a deep breath. Probably trying to come up with her next lie.

"I knew what was happening to you with your transformation and I figured you would need my help."

"I don't need anything from you," Mia said through her teeth. "Leave me the hell alone."

She ran to pick up Kevin and then her backpack and started walking. Sure they didn't have a car anymore, but as long as she was getting distance between her and Lora, she didn't care.

It wasn't long before she heard footsteps behind her. She looked over her shoulder and saw Ethan, Andi, Sam, and Randell. Everyone but Lora. She breathed a sigh of relief hoping that she finally got the message that she didn't want her around.

But a little tug in her gut kept her wondering if she was still just trailing behind.

Sorry for the short chapter but I've been very busy with work lately. I'm going to try to make this book more of a priority though because I really have missed writing. <3
