The steady sound of a monitor came in and out as Maria started to gain consciousness. She was in what felt like a cot, still in her regular clothes, so she wasn't in a hospital. Keeping her eyes shut, Maria tried tuning out the ringing in her ears so she could hear what was happening around her."Okay so let's go over this one more time," A man with a calm voice started. "She, Maria, was on the edge of a rooftop and you struck her with lightning."
"Yes, it was not on purpose though." She recognized the voice as the huge man who found her on the ground.
"Right, and you say that the two of you are loosely related through her mother?" A different man spoke this time, his voice was more witty and flowy than the other men.
"Indeed, her mother is a direct descendant of the Norse Goddess of the Sun, Sól. So we are distant relatives I suppose."
"And after you hit her, she fell, levitated, and let out a surge of energy?"
"Yes, I believe she may have some form of power, I just do not know what."
"Power? I don't have power! Also, I don't even know my mother, there's no way she's a descendant of some Norse goddess ..." Maria finally cut in but then trailed off as she took in the three men in front of her: Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, and Thor Odinson. "Oh my god, what am I doing here? Are you testing me or something?" She desperately looked around her and saw the IV in her arm and went to dig it out but was stopped when she saw her tremoring hands. "What did you do to me?" She shakily let out.
"Hi Maria, you're safe. We are not here to hurt you, I'm Bruce and we just want to help you. We haven't done anything to you other than make sure all of your systems are stable." He took a break from speaking to move closer to the cot and sit on the edge. "What do you last remember?" On cue, Tony took out a laptop to start writing down notes, Maria assumed.
"Why should I trust you?" Maria asked. "I mean other than the fact that you're an Avenger and saved New York. What if you're using me as a science project?"
"No offense kid, but I'm a billionaire, a tween from Queens is not my idea of a fun science project." Tony spoke, barely even looking at Maria.
"That's a good point." Maria mumbled. Looking down at her hands again, it was hard to focus on anything else. Her veins seemed to be popping out of her skin because of the constant shake of her hands. Ripping her eyes from her hands, she looked back up at Bruce's patient face. "I remember standing on the edge of my apartment building, seeing a flash of light, falling, hitting the ground, being lifted into the air, then falling again." She was starting to get confused at that point, but tried to remember what happened next. "Then he came up next to me," Maria spoke nodding her head towards Thor. "He picked me up and said some stuff I don't really remember, then everything went dark."
"That's good, when you were lifted back off the ground, did you see who or what was doing it?" Bruce politely asked, with a sincere look.
"There was no one there. I thought I imagined it. I remember feeling a wave of energy when I hit the ground again."
"We'd like to show you what a camera caught on video." Bruce said, Tony handed him a tablet and Bruce faced it towards Maria, pressing play. The footage was from a higher angle, showing Maria balancing on the roof. A flash of lightning covered the screen with white light, when it cleared there was a twisted, jumble of limbs on the cement. Maria so badly wanted to look away, how was it possible that was her? Then she was lifted into the air, just like she said, there was nothing there. However, all of a sudden a wave of blue, electrified energy exited her body and the camera went dark.
"What happened? Why is it dark? What is that blue stuff that surrounded me?" Maria jumbled out, starting to panic.
"We're trying to figure out the same thing, if you're okay with it we would like to run some tests on you." Bruce explained.
"I have questions first." She said, there was no way she was giving in that easily.
"Shoot." Tony responded.
"My mother," She faced Thor, "You said she was a descendant of a Norse goddess, how do I know that's true? I don't have any memories of my mom, my dad says she's in Sweden."
"Well, I'm not sure how I can prove that your mother is truly a descendant. Maria, I'm so sorry, your mother has been dead for years." Thor looked down to the floor as he spoke.
"What?" Her eyes filled with tears. "That can't be true, someone would have told me."
"Sól Angelica Oblique, date of birth is unknown and date of death is December 17th, 2004." Tony gravely read from his computer.
"No, no, this can't be real." Maria started vigorously shaking her head, tears streaming down her face.
"Maria, please calm down." Bruce started to look nervous. He took out his phone and opened the camera, "Look at yourself." Maria couldn't recognize herself, her eyes were glowing blue, her entire body was shaking, and there was an odd energy radiating off of her.
"What is happening to me?" She started hyperventilating. Machines around the room started to glitch and malfunction, while what was light rain outside started to turn into a downpour. "Am I doing this?" Bruce had backed up at that point, standing besides a concerned Thor, and a confused Tony. "Please, help me, run your tests I don't care, just please fix this!" She wailed, sending the room into darkness. The backup lights flickered on, as the four fell silent besides Maria's sobs.
"Okay Maria," Bruce started, "We want to help you, but for your safety and ours, we are going to have to sedate you."
"Please, just help me." Maria whimpered. Bruce cautiously walked over and grabbed a syringe from the side table and slipped Maria's mind into darkness.

"Mr. Oblique, you need to tell us if Maria possesses any type of powers. We want to help her as best as possible and right now we don't have many answers." Clint spoke, interrogating Christian.
"Maria?" Christian scoffed. "She doesn't have any type of power."
"What about her mother?" Clint pushed.
"What about her? Haven't seen her in years."
"She has been dead since 2004."
"Oh, well that's a shame." Christian sighed.
"When was the last time you spoke to your daughter?"
"Oh I don't know, she's always locked up in her room." Christian slurred.
"She tried to kill herself last night, Mr. Oblique. She was brought here because she somehow survived."
"Well where is she? If she's alive can't we go home?"
"Mr. Oblique, she wants our help and we want to help her."
"Well she doesn't need your help, I want her at home." Christian decided.
"She'll be released then, wait until we can get her." Clint finished and slammed the door behind him. Walking with one of the Stark employees, Clint said "Get a deep background check on him immediately, I don't trust him and I have a feeling Maria doesn't either."
