Justin frowned at the blonde boy who was sobbing in his arms. “You’re Niall, right? One Direction, yeah?” He said, pulling him around a corner so that they were alone.
Niall nodded and wiped the tears roughly from his eyes, before wincing at the pain from his, now black, eye. “Nice to m-meet you.” He said between sobs, that Justin could help but smile at how cute he sounded.
“Are you okay?” He asked, and released his grip from around Niall, when he was sure he was okay to stand on his own. Niall looked up at Justin and sighed, but nodded nonetheless. “Are you sure? Because your eye is swelling up pretty quick.” He said. He looked around to make sure no one was around, assuming Niall didn’t want everyone to see him upset, and took his hand, dragging him to the extra part of Maddie’s house which they didn’t use for parties.
“I’m so sorry, Justin. I didn’t want this to happen, I hope I haven’t ruined your party. I didn’t start all this, or at least I don’t think I di-“ Niall started blurting but Justin just giggled softly.
“Don’t worry, you haven’t ruined the party. To be honest, I didn’t want to be out there anymore.” Justin shrugged and opened the backdoor to the separate part of the house were there was an extra kitchen, bedroom and living area. Once they were insider, he grabbed some ice from the freezer. “Sit down..” He said, gesturing to the couch. He wrapped the ice in a towel and sat down next to Niall. Justin gently placed the ice on the blonde boys eye.
“This should stop it swelling up so much.” He said softly, letting Niall hold it in place. “So, what happened?” Justin said, crossing his legs to that he was facing the irish boy.
“Harry and Louis were arguing about something… I don’t know, they argue quite a lot… but anyway, I tried to stop them because I didn’t want them to cause any drama.” Niall said quickly. “And then L-Louis he.. he hit me.” He said in a voice to quiet it was barely audible, and he looked down to his lap.
Justin frowned and rubbed Niall’s arm gently. “I’m sorry, man.” He said, in an attempt to make him feel better. Considering Justin hadn’t met any of the other boys, he couldn’t really say anything like ‘im sure he didn’t mean it’ or ‘that’s not like him’, because he had no idea.
“I just wanted things to be perfect, this isn’t how we were meant to meet.” Niall said, flopping back into the couch in frustration.
Justin smiled and fiddled with his fingers in his lap. “It’s cool, I’m kinda glad I met you first.” He said, looking back at Niall. “I was pretty worried, actually. Maddie didn’t tell me you guys were coming.”
“They’re not that bad, I promise.” Niall smiled at Justin and pulled the ice away from his face. “Is it bad?” He asked, sitting up.
The Canadian smiled and shook his head. “It might be black for a few days but that’s nothing a little make up can’t fix.” He giggled and looked into Niall’s eyes. For the first time in a long while, Justin could feel himself getting lost; almost melting, into the blue orbs.
He would have looked weird to the boy staring back at him, if he hadn’t been doing exactly the same. The boys’ eyes were locked for a good few seconds, before Niall’s eyes flicked from Justin’s brown pools, down to his dark pink lips.
Before they could think about what they were doing, both boys were leaning in. They could feel the other’s breath on their lips as they almost brushed together.
“Niall?!” Louis called, followed by Maddie’s familiar voice yelling, “JUSTIN?!”
Both boys snapped back and Justin jumped up, feeling his face flush red. “Uh.. In here.” He called back, opening the door and leaning against the frame as Niall walked up to his side, his cheeks matching Justin’s.
“Ni, I’m really sorry, I don’t know what came over me.” Louis rushed forward, grabbing the younger boys hands in his.
“It’s ok.” Niall said, pecking him on the forehead before stepping out into the garden. He turned to Justin and smiled. “Thank you. I’m really sorry.”
“It’s cool man.” He replied, before dodging Maddie’s fist that flew past his arm.
He giggled as she pushed him back inside and slammed the door. “What were you thinking?! What were you doing in here?” She demanded, looking round.
“Niall needed help, I was helping him.” Justin shot back.
“You? Helping? Since when does Justin Bieber.. help?” Maddie said, eyeing him up and down.
“He was crying, Mads. I wasn’t gonna let him cry.” Justin shrugged and turned around to hide the blush on his cheeks.
“You almost kissed him, didn’t you?” She said, smirking and crossing her arms over her front.
“How the hell did you know?” He asked, pressing his lips together.
“I’m a girl. I can sense these things.” Maddie sing-songed.
“Whatever.” Justin replied, pushing past her and out of the door, back into the party. Maddie sighed and flailed her arms up in defeat. As she turned around she noticed an iPhone on the couch Justin and Niall had been sitting on. She picked it up and tossed it in her hands, noticing the Justin Bieber case.
“Justin!” Maddie called, running up behind him and falling into step next to him. “This isn’t yours, right?” She said, eyeing him from the side and showing him the phone.
“Nope, but they have good taste in music. Why?” Justin said, grabbing a drink and taking a couple of sips.
“I found it on the couch, in the back house.” Maddie said. “Must be Niall’s. I’ll go give it to him.” She said, skipping off.
“No!” He said, putting out his arm to stop her. “I mean.. I’ll do it.” Justin said, taking the phone and jogging off to find Niall.
“Wait, Justin! He’s gone home, we can go give it to him tomorrow.” Maddie said, yawning and sighing at the sight of their now deserted garden.
Justin nodded and looked down at the phone, flipping it between his fingers as he bit his lip.
