"All the leaves are brown, leaves are brown and the sky is grey. I've been for a walk on a winter's day. I'd be safe and warm if I was in L.A, California dreaming on such a winter's day."

I rub my eyes as i slowly get up to turn off my alarm clock, thank god it was the last day of school, I quickly got dressed into my usual attire of an earth coloured sweater and jeans, nothing special, I walked out into the kitchen, though I was met with the sound of nothingness, mom had already left for work leaving only me at home, I quickly ate a bowl of cereal as I grabbed my headphones, Walkman and bag from my bedroom, I walked outside after locking the door and put my headphones on blasting some songs as I got onto my bike and started riding to school.

I got to school as I looked at all the other students getting out of cars and busses, talking and walking with each other, I put my bike on the bike rack as I continue listening to my Walkman, I never hung out with anyone before school, mostly because I had no friends and also because I didn't know how to make friends, so I just kept to myself, the truth is, I really wanted a few close friends but I just didn't know how to make any, this was how it had been for the whole year since I had moved to this small town in Hawkins.

I walked quickly thought the halls avoiding eye contact with everyone I passed, even though I had my headphones on I could still hear a few students giggle to each other as I walked past, the groups leader, the basketball captain, who has been relentlessly bullying me since the start of the school year for absolutely no reason, he shouted something at me though I couldn't hear him, I quickly walked away from the group as they all cackled and laughed like hyenas.

The school bell rung as everyone walked towards the auditorium, I sat next to a girl whom I thought was in my year, she was wearing bright colours with teased hair, she looked pretty cool, the cheerleaders did their cheer routine as some of the basketball boys were setting up a microphone, everyone clapped as the cheerleaders finished and the basketball captain, Jason walked up to the centre of the auditorium, he started talking about the basketball game that was tonight, as I looked at the other side of the auditorium where other kids sat I saw a group of four boys all wearing the same shirt with a picture of the devil on it, I had seen a few kids with shirts like those around school, I just thought it was a club or something.

I sat in my geography class hoping the bell would go soon, a few minutes later my prayers were answered, I grabbed my bag and slipped my headphones back on as I walked out of the room, as I was walking away from the cafeteria I saw the same four boys again, they were all laughing about something, I didn't realise how long I was staring a the group until two of them looked at me with a confused face, I quickly continued walking trying to avoid embarrassment.

I made it to the councillors office, I watched as a ginger girl I had seen before walked out the office quickly, I opened the door slowly as I walked in the room, I sat in the slightly uncomfortable chair opposite the councillor, I turned off my Walkman as she asked me on how I was doing, I just responded in quick dry sentences, she started asking how my mom was, "you know, after what happened" she asked quietly "she's ok" I stare as the floor fidgeting with my sleeve, as she said this, I had remembered once again what happened, I used to live in a nice house in Wisconsin, my dad used to be a heavy smoker, always smoking while almost falling asleep, he used to always sleep with his bedroom door locked, until one day he lit his usual cigarette and fell asleep, his blanket had caught fire and then it escalated from there, due to his door being locked we couldn't get to him before the whole house was engulfed with flames, even the firefighters couldn't save him, then after that mom decided it was best to move states to start fresh, even though it had happened last year it was still like a fresh open wound.
