"Y/N for the last time this is a great opportunity! We could actually finally move to Europe with this job!" Your mother proclaimed, you sat in the living room still upset about the fact you were in Hawkins. You missed the air of Oklahoma. But maybe your mother was right, this would be a great opportunity. You sank deeper into the couch, grabbing your backpack. Opening the large zipper pulling out an interesting book you found at a garage sale. It was named "Dungeons & Dragons; MONSTERS & CREATURES." It was a short book, having a plastic texture with only 180 pages. You didn't know a lot about DnD other than the fact it was extremely complicated. You stared at the book sunken into your thoughts before a familiar voice caught your attention. You looked up to see your mother. "Y/N, are you really not gonna read any other books? There's much more to life than that stupid monster book." You sat in silence, wishing to respond, but anything you said would make her not understand and complain more. You glanced at the book and slipped it back inside your backpack zipping it back up. "Ma, when are you starting your job?" You asked quietly, changing the subject. "Tonight, Hun. I'll be back before you know it. We'll spend the spring break together hm?" She asked with a large grin. You smiled, looking up at the lady, "Yeah, that would be nice." You said, you stretched up from the large couch. "I think I'm going to my room, I wanna sleep." You said with a groan in your throat. She nodded, as you grabbed your backpack and headed up the large pair of stairs. Opening the door to a large room. It was un-decorated and bland. You stuck your tongue out in the cold-hearted room. Closing the door and slumping onto the bed. You looked at the door, then at your backpack. You smiled, 'dummy' is what you were thinking about the entire time. Un-zipping the backpack and pulling out that DnD book once again, looking at the sticky notes on your favorite creatures in the book. You laid up against a large pillow on your bed, opening the book to the first sticky note.
---CENTAURS, PAGE 24.---
"The proud nomadic race of creatures known as centaurs combine the speed and strength of horses with the determination and intelligence of humans. Their upper bodies allow them to wield weapons for hunting or warfare, while their lower bodies allow them to traverse great distances at tremendous speed or to trample an enemy underfoot."
"Centaurs are tribal creatures who move along the same ancient trading routes used for generations, through lush forests, snow capped mountains, and dry desserts, capturing or trading whatever supplies they need as they go. As they have no territory to defend, they are not naturally inclined toward war, but they still train for it, and are powerful and ferocious warriors when crossed."
"Yet centaurs prefer a peaceful life, living in harmony with nature. They have tremendous respect for the cycles of the natural world, taking only what they need and giving back what they can."
You smiled at the small page under your fingertips. Centaurs had always made you giddy inside, the idea of having the well speed of a horse but the strength of a body builder at the same time felt like a dream. Which in this case, was. You favored the centaur for resembling its love of nature perfectly. You were always the one out of the class to beg to go outside for recess even when a tornado siren was about to go off. You didn't care, you loved the rain. Hell you grew up in Oklahoma so who wouldn't? You wished to be a strong fighter, but you were too small for the job. No matter the motivation you skipped out. You loved the centaur because you related to it so much, it related to you so much.
You could feel it.
You closed the book, smiling at yourself. Knowing that you could be strong like it one day. The night came, you heard a small knock on the door. Quickly slipping the book underneath your pillows the door opened. "Hey sweetie, your dad and I are going to work now. We'll be home in the morning. Love you!" "Love you too," You said softly, once you heard the click from the door. You relaxed your muscles, sinking into the soft mattress that created your bed. You sighed gracefully, maybe it was time to sleep anyways. Tomorrow was unpacking day. You fell into a deep sleep, smiling to yourself. Centaurs filled your mind. What a dream...
You woke up from your grace sleep, sitting up in your small bed stretching out your limbs. You placed your feet on the carpet in your room. Standing up stretching again, you itched your head and decided to start with a basic shower for the day. You opened your door, walking down the set of stairs. You grabbed a small package, it was filled with your clothes from Oklahoma. You headed upstairs with the package kicking the door open with the tip of your foot, setting the package down in front of the closet that would soon be filled with your amazing clothes. You sat down, opening the folded box. Picking a basic outfit that wouldn't get in the way when un-packing. You knew towels were already placed in the bathroom so you left your room and entered the white bathroom, looking like any other bathroom.
--After your basic shower--
You left the bathroom with your outfit on, your hair still damp from the water. You walked downstairs, hearing snoring coming from the room across from yours. "They're asleep.' You thought to yourself. You shook your head and brushed it off, walking down the set of stairs once again. Arriving at the end, you looked for the boxes that included your name on them. You carried each one of them upstairs one by one, each one getting even more heavy with each one. You carried the last box, but tripped on the last step of the staircase, dropping the box with you. Something spilt out of the box, you looked into the box. seeing empty pickle jars. You smiled and giggled a little bit. You remember when you were young, with your sister you used to drink the pickle juice with her while your brother ate all the pickles. You kept the jars for memories and maybe someday it would come in handy, which it never did. You gathered the pickle jar, placing it back into the box. Picking it up once again carrying it into your room. You placed the last box down, sighing. You walked up to the first box and-
--TIME SKIP WHEN DONE DECORATING--
You decorated the room how you enjoyed it then yawned. Band posters mostly covered the walls, you remembered the book. And wanted to read the Centaur part again, hoping to get a lucid dream of being a centaur later into the night. You opened the page to 24 once again with the sticky note. And began reading,
"THE WISDOM OF CENTAURS; You might never encounter centaurs out in the wild, as they prefer to travel through remote lands. However, if they are too old or weak to travel, a lone centaur may end up living in a humanoid settlement. These noble individuals are often revered in the community for their knowledge of the world and ability to read natural omens."
"SIZE; The horse part of a centaur is about the same size and height of a large and powerful horse, but the human half of a centaur adds to its overall height, making these very imposing creatures to face in battle."
"LAIR; Centaurs do not have lairs. They only settle in one place when forced to do so by injury or age. If you encounter a group of centaurs by an oasis or a lake one day, they will be gone the next, leaving little behind except hoof-prints in the mud."
You smiled deeply, feeling that same feeling again. The idea of seeing or being a centaur made you all so happy, you just couldn't control it. You sat down on your bed sighing happily. You had two weeks before school started up again. Maybe you should just go out and explore Hawkins. It will be a great experience, so far it has. Your mom was right, this was a great opportunity.
