Wilbur is the prince, Quackity is a commoner. Longstory short, this story is about Wilbur running away from his royal duties to be normal and meets Quackity, a commoner. They meet, fall in love, blah blah blah, drama, blah blah blah.
And for gays in this universe, being gay is totally chill, but not for royals. They want royalty to "live on" and reproduce more kings and queens so they have to be straight. they don't care about regular people lmao. Just explaining this now cuz it's not brought up much in the story.
okay enjoy!
3rd Person POV
"father, I cannot marry. I don't love her!" Wilbur exclaimed."I know son, but this will ensure peace. we cannot afford another war now. it's just a peace deal, nothing more." King Philza tried to explain as he walked with Wilbur.
"sure it is! I can't marry someone and love them later, father! that is backwords!"
"I'm sure you can make some arrangements with her." Philza sighed.
"maybe, but I don't want to." Wilbur leaned against the window and looked down at his kingdom, the villages.
oh how often he would day dream of being a regular man, a commoner. free of diplomacy, and free. how he dreamed of being normal.
for a commoner, you could marry anyone you wanted, man or woman. didn't matter. but for royalty, you must marry as heterosexual. why? to bear the next in line. commoners, there is so many. why need more?
Wilbur sighed as he looked at the small shops and houses. he too, wished to marry freely.
his whole family knew he liked both, and he had no real preference, but he wanted his love to be his choice. something he saw so sacred shouldn't be chosen by a court.
"I'll leave you alone, but please, do this for the kingdom. Tommy is too young for marriage and- and... and I need you to do this, please Wilbur..." Philza gave up and left the prince to his devices.
Wilbur sighed and decided to go to the garden for fresh air.
Wilbur was tall for his age, or at all. he wore more comfortable and less flashy clothes compared to other royalty. his round glasses helped his brown eyes see. he was rather handsome.
he walked the lonesome empty corridors and imagined himself as king.
the mighty crown, powerful, in charge.
he imagined himself with someone he loved. he imagine him showing off his castle where they were to spend the rest of their days.
he didn't really imagine what his true love looked like, but he knew he would be madly in love with them. he had to be.
Wilbur finally made it to the garden and strolled around, admiring the flowers. he picked some pretty flowers he saw and gave them a sniff.
"oh my love, where are you?" Wilbur asked nobody. '"I want to runaway from all of this. I wish to be... I want to be free!"
Wilbur thought back to the village he was thinking about earlier. oh, how he wished to live there. hardworking, nothing is free except for you. it would be rewarding.
a spiteful idea suddenly hit Wilbur.
the garden isn't too far from the village. he would be about halfway there before the guards or anyone would notice him missing.
if he ran, ran as fast as he could. he could make it. he could hide somewhere, earn his keep for once in his life. he could be free of having to be important when he wasn't.
he could be free.
without saying goodbye, without thinking,, and without warning, Wilbur began to run.
he ran to the edge of the garden closest to the village. there was a tree perfectly placed near the stone wall that he could climb.
Wilbur reached up to the lowest branch and hoisted himself up, almost close enough to reach the top of the wall. He climbed it bit more and jumped down to the other side.
with a more or less graceful landing and face full of dirt, Wilbur got up as quickly as he fell and ran to his new life.
one foot infront of the other in haste, he sprinted like his life depended on it. and sure, to him, it totally did.
about half way there, just as he expected, he heard bells ringing. they had just noticed he was missing and would be coming for him.
Wilburs speed increased as he tried to make it to the village before the search party did.
the closest thing he could see was a barn, and a barn with a wide open door.
"perfect" Wilbur thought to himself. and that was exactly where he headed.
when he finally made it, the barn was luckily empty except for lots of hay. and a cow. it would be perfect for Wilbur to hide in here from the guards until they gave up.
speaking of which, Wilbur could hear the guards horses and the dogs barking.
"shit..." Wilbur whispered and quickly went inside.
in the back corner was the highest pile of hay. that's where he went. he dug a bit of a hole against the wall and settled his tall body into the small and itchy hole.
Wilbur could hear voices moments later when he was all hidden just outside. he tried to listen, but could barely make out what was being said.
Wilbur gave up on listening after about five minutes, he couldn't understand anything anyways.
they sure got here quick... Wilbur thought to himself. he did find it odd how fast the guards made it to the village.
"well, I didn't see anyone come in, sirs. but if I see anything, you will know." someone said, still out of earshot to Wilbur.
"well, keep a lookout. it is of up most importance we find him. farewell, then."
"farewell." the barn owner sighed as the guards left.
with his eyes rolling, he closed the barn doors, unknownly locking the prince in for the night.
Wilbur silently panicked, but he was too tired to actually do anything. and it's not like he could. he couldn't leave with the "security" in the area anyways.
Wilbur decided to sleep it out and hide until he could come with a plan.
