ONE WEEK BEFORE GRADUATION

Kayla POV

OMG! I am literally one week away from officially being out of high school. Like this is getting real, we all know what we are doing after high school. Brianna is going to the local community College on a full ride scholarship for cosmology. Ant is going to a college only 3hrs away to play D2 Basketball and get his business degree. Trey is going to keep working on his business. Ashley is going to a college about 4.5hrs away to become a nurse. I'm going to a college in the same town as Ash just not the same college but mad close to also become a nurse.

I've been tryna make sure the right people get my graduation tickets. I got 8 tickets so I invited my brother, Q, my pops and his wife mama J, Essence, my Nana, and my gma B and paw paw. Everyone is planning on coming my grandma B and paw paw are coming in 2 days before graduation which really means a lot to me.

"Aye Kay, pops here"

I walk downstairs and I'm greeted by a big bear hug from pops.

"Pops I can't breathe" I said struggling to get the words out

" My bad, I'm just so proud of you. From watching you from a baby to now it's crazy. Feels like just yesterday you was beating Ace in tha head with yo barbie doll. And stealing my shoes"

"Lol yea I do and don't miss those days all at once"

"Yea, I know your mom is looking down so proud of you. Just to see the young woman you've become and to see the big things you're gonna do"

"Yea trust she's been on my mind a lot this week. I miss her so much pops like I really wish she was here to cheer me on across the stage and hug me and tell me how proud of me she is" I said as tears start to fall down my face

"Yea I know baby. Come here, she's cheering you on I can promise you that"

I hugged pops and he held me till I stopped crying. People really don't understand how it is to not have a parent by yo side thru the most important years of yo life. Like don't get me wrong I'm very thankful for Ace, pops, and Nana but I still be wishing my momma was here. She just had a way of making sure I was OK even when she wasn't. Like the amount of times she came in my room bruised up and bleeding but came to hold me while I cried out of fear is crazy.

"You ok now?"

"Yea for now, thanks pops I don't know without you. You really stepped up and played a role you didn't have to"

"Ofc baby, I wouldn't have let you go thru all that by yourself. I mean you was at the house to see Ace and my house was more safe than the one you were in. And everybody needs a good dad especially little girls so you know how you're supposed to be treated in the future"

"Despite what I saw at home you always reminded me that what I saw wasn't right and wasn't love. You were always there whenever I called even when the school had to call you because I got sick and momma was too beaten up to pick me up"

"Yea, we got a lot of memories huh" He said with a deep chuckle

"We really do"

"Ofc you're my baby girl, my only daughter"
