Walking aimlessly with no destination in mind, Myla trudged the sandy desert with nothing but parched throat, weak body and hurting feet. The terror she'd seen and experienced weighs heavily on her mind as her heart clouded with guilt for not being able to lead her team to safety. She the so called ranger failed to protect her comrades.
Yet somehow, somewhere, she's searching for hope. Hope to kill the very ashen beasts that slaughtered her men and get home. So she has to survive and live for them.
Water.
The very first element that crossed her mind recalling the word survive. She has to find water. Drink, clean her wound, find a safe resting place before planning her course of action to take.
That is, if she could live through the gigantic ashen beast that came out of nowhere.
Gasping in terror, she could only stare at it as it growled at her. Her labored breathing didn't fail to arouse the ashens appettite. Inflicting fear on their victim would be the beasts first order of business as it would somehow make their prey tastier. Especially for humans, the top of their food chain.
It's fight or flight for Myla.
Knowing full well she wouldn't stand a chance if she fights, she chose the later. Even if the chances are slim to none.
Run!
That is all she could think before finally stepping back, turned around and run in full speed. But given her faltering strength and conciousness, she barely made it 5 steps before the beast had her on its claws. With a terrified scream, she kicked her feet, her combat boots meeting nothing but air. The air in her lungs constricted until she had trouble breathing. She felt her body being squeezed and that made her stop.
It's impossible to free herself. With a simple snap of the beast claw, she'd be sliced in half. Maybe accepting death would be easier.
Maybe.
With her life flashing before her, a small smile ghosted her lips remembering each of her men she had brought with her for their mission. And yet, the memories they'd made together was worth the smile before her tragic demise. With her eyes slowly closing, she waited for the end only to hear the beast shriek in terror and excruciating pain. She could only open her eyes before she was dropped to the sandy ground.
Groaning in pain, she forced herself to look up only to freeze on what she saw.
A lady dresses in some glamorous white ancient dress faced the agonizing beast head on. Running, the lady leaped as twin swords appeared on both her hands out of nowhere and full on swayed them. The sword didn't touch the creature however, they glowed and the next thing Myla saw, the beast swayed heavily with both of its claws cut off.
Still in mid air, the lady twirled and her swords blazed in fire. Her body sunk into some fighting stance before sending the sword straight into the creatures heart, ending its life by exploding.
Myla gasped seeing the scattered splinters, she clamored to get away from it only for her foot to give up on her. Seeing a piece coming straight for her, she shields her arms on her face but the impact never came.
Opening her eyes, she was surprised to see the lady who just saved her life on her face, hovering over her that's what. Myla's gaze followed the ladys bluish wings. Wings like those of an eagle. Bluish mist covered them and it dazzled her making her forget her dilema momentarily. The ladys wings covered both of them as remnants of the beast keeps flying everywhere.
Soon, silence followed.
That pulled Myla of her trance. The first thing she heard was heavy breathing. Taking a look at her face, Myla saw the ladys eyes close as she breathes heavily. Then something warm dropped on her forehead. Quickly wiping it with her fingers, she was stunned.
Blood.
The mystical female is bleeding profusely. "H-hey," she tried to say holding both her shoulders only to grunt when the females full weight dropped on her, her wings vanishing leaving millions of sparking tiny crystals on its wake.
Myla's bewildered but no, somethings more important than that.
_______
"C'mon! You need to live! You saved my life, I'm not letting you die so help me out here," Myla pleads almost breathless as she pressed the cloth on the ladys back where it's bleeding the most. Given her rank in the military, she was equipped with medicinal skills as she was once a medical surgeon before she decided she is better off with holding guns.
Taking a deep breath, she proceeded to medicate her wounds using nothing but some gunpowder and a little fire. "I expect you to open your eyes in the morning," she say voice laced with authority when at last she's done.
