Month : January
You bowed in front of the Shinto Shrine and took the first step with your left foot passing through the gate. There was a long line at temple in order to ring the bell and offer a New Year's prayer.
When it was your turn, you ran the bell You searched you pockets and took out a ¥5 coin and threw your money in the offertory box. Bowing deeply before clapping your hands and closing you eyes.
Opening your eyes, you bowed once more as a voice interrupted.. Totally you did 2 bows, 2 claps, prayer, 1 bow to complete the ritual. You were already having a omamori (lucky charm) since Atsushi gave it to you.
It is a small pouch made out of cloth that contains a small object called a "naifu," made from paper, wood, cloth, or metal, with a sacred text or sutra inscribed on it. Embroidered in the center of the charm is the name of the Shrine.
It is a customary to bring old omamori from the previous year back to the Shrine to be ceremonially burned. The omamori usually come in a variety of different colors symbolizing the type of luck it will bring.
You were about to leave when an old lady's voice interrupted. "You won't take the omikuji child?" she asked with eye closed smile on her face. Her skin was wrinkled showing how old she's been.
"I'm not sure about fortune.." you answered. You looked at people taking a little strip of paper called "Omikuji" which was form of fortune lottery. It was written on the paper, predicting different fortunes.
Of-course you didn't full believe it. Fate always seem to have something against you. "You gave give it a try, there's nothing harm. And don't forget to make a wish on Ema." She smiled at you and passed by.
You looked around to see people writing their wish on wooden plaques called "Ema". You randomly took paper strip (Omikuji) and without looking at it, you purchased Ema. From last two year, you visited this Shrine with your friends.
You've never stepped into one before. The guys and girls made you write wishes on Ema. The only thing you wished was to resolve everyone's difficulties to keep happy. Nothing less, nothing more, nothing particular.
