Turhan was with her mother and brother at the Manisa palace when the fateful news reached them. Her father, Sultan Selim was dead and her twin brother, Suleiman, was the new appointed Sultan.

After ensuring news reached him while on his hunt, the family made preparations to send the harem to Topkapi palace, and they'd reach the capital merely three days after the royal family.

Turhan was glad to have a few days of peace before the insufferable presence of her brother's Bas kadin joined them. She had no animosity towards her nephew Mustafa, mainly because he was her only nephew but she was sure he'd grow to be as gullible and spoiled as his mother.

Now that her brother was Sultan, she had made plans to choose new concubines for him. Ones who were fiery and smart and would be capable of raising strong shehzades like her mother had raised Suleiman.

She managed to find the right woman in Alexandra, a red haired Ruthenian concubine, who was indisciplined at first but grew to be calm and patient after Turhan had sent her trusted maid Fulane to offer her advice.

After all, a concubine can rise to be the most powerful woman in the ottoman court aside from the royal family if she played her cards right.

And Turhan planned on befriending her so.
