Things had slowly begun to slip back into normality. Lena was making large strides in being more open with her feelings and her past with Kara. It was still something she was getting used to, sure, but it was… a weight lifted off her shoulders. She felt lighter, sharing things she had stuffed down so deep inside herself and it felt good to finally set them free. The two talked more, deeper conversations about life, and what they wanted from their future together, among other topics. Healing wounds the two had neglected for a long while. Kara had admitted that though she was a lowly reporter publishing nothing more than puff pieces or small stories from around National City she had dreams for more. She wanted to do more, she has always wanted to do better. Kara expressed that although she didn't feel she had a true purpose in the High Kingdom, she felt that she could do so much more on earth and she planned to do just that. Lena had gathered her in her arms after the strong willed confession and held her close. Lena’s heart had never felt more full.

She had better control on her anger, she was lashing out less not to mention her relationships were stronger than ever. Lena made it a point to spend more time with her mother, they would go on hikes or spend a few hours training like she used to do in the High Kingdom. Lena was talking to her mother more as well, using her as a sounding board. Bringing light to her fears, and her worries or her traumas she faced back when she first fell. It was hard to dig everything up but it also felt really good to just let it all out and not be judged for it.

Diana was even starting to open up more about her mother, Lillian. Diana had made sure that Lena knew everything about her mother while she was growing up, she had never shied away from telling Lena who Lillian was. Any question Lena had Diana would answer, but, there were times where Diana couldn’t bare to talk about the woman who had brought her into this world.  At the time she had been unaware, she had thought the grief that would fill Diana’s eyes and harden her features to stone, was just that of wounds that had yet to fully heal, if they would ever heal at all. Lillian was her closest friend, if not one of her only friends, that pain would never truly fade. Finally knowing the truth about her mothers---the love they held for one another, their bond---Lena had a much better understanding of the pain Diana must have been in and must live with still.

She grew up knowing her mother through a different lens; the warrior, the best general of their ranks, not of the Lillian how Diana saw her. Her mother told her so many stories, about how they grew up together, the trouble they would get in or how they would terrorize their teachers. How they climbed through the ranks together---Diana acting recklessly during training to show off her strength and bravado just to impress Lillian---constantly at eachothers throats for the top spot.

It was on one of those softer nights where they had been reminiscing about the past that Diana spoke of the moment she knew she loved Lillian. She admitted to her daughter that she had been in love with her mother since they were small but that she didn’t understand those feelings until much later.

“I think I had always loved her.” Diana spoke softly, her gaze far away as memories flooded in. “We were thick as thieves since we were able to walk, attached at the hip. Our teachers and trainers hated it. We would terrorize them by pulling terrible pranks. I remember your mother had thought it was a brilliant idea to release a cage of mice into one of the teachers rooms, I was so enthralled with her that I followed blindly. We were cleaning the stables for a month” Diana gave a gruff chuckle shaking her head at the memory.

“Mother sounds like a handle full.” Lena said snorting a laugh.
