Flashback

"Dude no one in this classroom was born in the same hospital as me!" Ray whispered to Andrew. "You can never be so sure." Ray took a deep breath. "Was anyone here born in California?" She shouted, quietly. "Oh..." Andrew looked down. "BE QUIET!" The teacher yelled. "You never said you were born in California." "Thats why I said no one was born in the same hospital as me."

End of the flashback

"Yeah I was born on a military base lol." Ray laughed. "That's actually kinda cool." Robin picked at her lunch. "The Mac and cheese is the only food that's bad here. It's dry, and hard. No cheese." She sighed. "I don't eat lunch room food, but agree, it looks gross." Ray took a sip of coffee. She closed up her lunch box and Robin threw away her lunch. The bell rang. "Bye Robin, see you after this class." Ray waved to Robin. "Bye Ray." The two stood up and walked to their next classes.

Ray took a seat next to Andrew. "Hey dude." "Hey." A girl walked in and sat next to Ray. She had blonde hair and green eyes, she was slo wearing a blue sweater and black jeans. "Hi, I'm Marcy. I moved here from California! 29 palms if you want to be exact." The girl introduced herself. "I'm Ray, welcome." "Andrew." Andrew reached over Ray and stuck out his hand. Marcy shook his hand. There was an awkward silence. "Wait," Ray looked at Marcy. "did you say 29 palms?" "Yeah, why?" Wow. "It's funny cause that's where I lived for the first three years of my life." Marcy giggle. "Maybe I can tell you what's it like over there!" "That'd be awesome!"

After class

Ray sat next to Robin, Marcy sitting on the other side of Ray. "Robin, meet Marcy! She's from California! Same place I used to live." "Hey Marcy, Im Robin, as Ray just said." "So Marcy, how was it over there?" Ray asked. "Well it was interesting to say the least." "Not as interesting as here." Robin added.

"The beaches beautiful in California. Except for all the trash. I tried to help pick up but people would continue to litter so it didn't help." "At least you tried to help." Ray smiled. "Yeah I guess." Marcy looked at the teacher explaining the lesson.

Ray looked over at Marcy doing her work. I can't believe I've met someone who is from the same place as me. It's amazing. Ray continued to do her work. It was about Tupac and poems. Not joking I actually had to do a worksheet like this irl. The bell rang, telling everyone to go to seventh period.

"What do you have?" Marcy asked. "Band." "Oh." They exited the classroom and went separate ways.

Since it was November football season was over, meaning they didn't have after school practice for band.

Ray sat her stuff down and went to go get her trumpet out of her cubby in the instrument room. After she got it she took a seat in her chair. Being a senior meant she was higher up, third chair to be exact. Two of her friends being first and second chair. Robin was first chair, section leader, of the clarinets.

They were practicing Christmas music for the Christmas parade. It was on December 13th.

After band class

Ray had decided to take the bus today. Turns Marcy also rode that bus. Ray took a seat next to Robin. She spotted this one boy, Parker. She despised him. He took a seat one seat behind her.

"Hey pretty girl~" He teased, standing up and looked at Ray. "Shut up Parker." She turned around. "No need to be mad." He flipped her off, she returned it. He sat down.

The bus stopped and Parker stood up. Ray stuck out her foot, tripping him. "Fuck!" He shouted. "Parker we do not condemn that language!" The bus driver shouted. He rolled his eyes and walked off the bus. Ray snickered.

That night

Ray caught her stepdad watching the news. She sat down next to him and watched it with him for a bit. "Handshake?" She looked up at him. "Fine you little loser." They did their little handshake, which ended with them flipping each other off.

Ray looked at the screen. Breaking news! Teenage boy is missing!  "Woah." "He was going into the backyard and I haven't seen him since!" What Ray assumed to be the boys mother cried. "His name is Parker, brown hair and green eyes, about 5'7, last seen wearing a black shirt and blue jeans and green Nike shoes." Ray's eyes widened slightly. Parker was missing?

Next day

"Did you hear Parker was missing?" Ray said to Robin during gym. "Yeah, it's kinda weird. First a new student, and now Parker goes missing." Ray nodded in agreement.

"Hey guys!" Ray and Robin a little when Marcy came up to them. "What were y'all talking about?" "Oh we were just talking about how Parker disappeared." Robin answered. "The boy you tripped yesterday Ray?" "Yeah." Ray nervously laughed.

"That wasn't very nice you know." "He provoked me to do it!" Ray defended herself. "How?" "He always teases me. And his stupid face made me want to trip him." "That's not valid." "You should see what he says!" Marcy walked away. "You shouldn't just trip him." She called out.

"She's kinda annoying." Robin tied her shoes. "My good friend, I have to agree. I told her why I tripped him and she said it wasn't valid. If she had to put up with someone teasing her about liking someone for 4 years and teasing her for other things she would probably trip him as well." Ray agreed. They exited the locker room and went into the gym and walked around it until they had to sit down.

The next day

It was Saturday, Ray and her stepdad were watching the news again. Turns out they found Parker and he got lost in his own backyard. Apparently he went into the woods and got lost and went into the wrong direction too many times. Only in this town stuff like this happens.

Ray got a call on her phone. It was Marcy. "Hello?" "Hey Ray. Did they ever find the boy?" "Yeah." "Oh. Uh thanks for letting me know!" Marcy said nervously then hung up. "Weird." Ray mumbled and went to TikTok.
