Ever since I woke up that morning I had a bad feeling. Maybe it was because Anna had glared at me with more hatred than usual or because Mikoto had been distant since Tatara's death. Besides that, I could also add the fact that my beloved king had been captured by Scepter 4 and that his sword of Damocles was getting worse and worse.
Still, I didn't understand why I had the feeling that something bad was going to happen when it should be the other way around. For once, everything seemed to be going smoothly. Mikoto had finally discovered where the Colorless King was hiding and had left his cell in Scepter 4. We were going to catch this guy and avenge Tatara's death.
It should have been a good day, and yet it didn't feel like that.
A sword brushed my cheek, bringing me back to reality. In front of me, one of the blues was looking at me with his sword raised, doubting whether or not to attack me when he saw me disarmed. Idiot. Why does everyone let their guard down when they see a woman? Annoyed that he didn't take me seriously as an adversary, I kicked him in the wrist and, taking advantage of the fact that he wasn't expecting it, I pulled out the knife I had hidden and stabbed it into his hand. I knew that he would not be able to hold the sword properly with the wounded hand, so I called our fight over.
I had barely taken a couple of steps when I saw Mikoto's sword in the air and how the red aura around it intensified. I wasted no time and started running.
I needed to find him.

When I got to where my king was, I understood why he had increased the power surge. A few meters away from him, the Colorless King, who seemed to be having a fight with himself, was trying to get closer to him.
“Mikoto! Stop!” I didn't understand what was going on but, at that time, I didn't care if the Colorless King escaped. All I cared about was that nothing happened to Mikoto. He has always been very reckless, but this time he was taking it to the extreme.
Upon hearing me, Mikoto turned in my direction and frowned.
“What are you doing here? Go away.”
Go away? Did he really expect me to leave without him?
Small fragments of his sword of Damocles began to fall off.
“Mikoto... Please leave it. Let's go home,” I begged, approaching him and pulling his sleeve as Anna used to do.
“Get out of here. Now” he insisted.
My vision became hazy as the tears tried to come out. Didn't he realize that his life was in danger?
“Mikoto... Do it for me, please,” no matter what I said, he only seemed to get angrier. Why couldn't I be strong enough to take down the Colorless King?
I felt useless.
“No ashes left behind. Remember?”
The fact that he used my own words against me was a low blow. However, I had no time to argue. Izumo appeared and approached us to inform Mikoto that they had already evacuated Ashinaka, which meant that he already knew in advance what Mikoto was about to do. That brought tears of rage to add to the ones of impotence.
Why hadn't he said anything to me if he already knew it was going to end like this?
“Izumo, I'm leaving you in charge”. Don't say goodbye, you idiot! You can't die here! You can't leave me! “Now, go.”
Izumo caught the implicit order in his words and, without giving me time to react, grabbed me as if I were a sack of potatoes and started running with me on his shoulder.
Mikoto's sword began to crumble as Izumo pulled me away. We hadn't even said goodbye.
Please, Mikoto, be safe.
