My eyes fluttered open, scanning the blurry room before me. Blinking a few more time, I looked around to see Butcher nowhere in sight. He must have left after I fell asleep. My answer was soon given to me as I got up and walked into the living room, seeing him asleep on the couch. I was going to wake him up, but his laptop started to ring. It was Ryan calling on Skype. Man, that kid is dedicated to staying in touch. I answered, seeing his smiling face made me smile a bit more, "Hey Ryan. You're up early." "Yeah, you look tired." Did I really look that tired? I mean, yeah, I did have a slight breakdown last night so what are the odds? I yawned, "I did just wake up. So, anything new?" "Well...I got those Legos you sent me! I'm actually making a video for you right now." In my still slightly sleepy state, I clapped lightly, "Yay. I can't wait to see the final product of your wonderful masterpiece." He smiled big at that, giving me a warm and fuzzy feeling in my chest. "But," My smile turned a bit sad looking at him. "You called for Butcher, right?"
"I love talking with you though. I don't want to-" "Don't worry Ryan, I got the message. Plus, it's my turn to cook breakfast today anyway. Butcher always burns the bottom of the pan, so yeah." That made him laugh, making me laugh as well. Assuring him that I'll wake him up, I muted myself and went over to the couch to gently shake him. I would've have gone more firm and aggressive with it, but we've both had times where we start swinging on people who wake us up from nightmares. He gasped loudly, making me jump back as his body tensed up. "How bad was this nightmare?" I asked him. Looking over at me quick, he wiped the sweat from his face and nodded silently. I sighed loudly, "I'll start breakfast. While I cook, go talk to Ryan, he's waiting on call for you." I unmuted the call before he go into camera view, casually going to start making some breakfast.
"Hello, hello. A bit early, isn't it?" "You said I could call you after 8:00. It's 8:03." He was clearly out of it, and Ryan soon caught onto it. Glancing over, his eyes was on the bulldog cookie jar he bought a while ago for the place. Oh yeah, he was hiding something from me. So big that it probably made his already current nightmares even worse. "Did you watch the video I made?" Ryan asked him. You could see the wheels turning in his head as Butcher responded, "I, uh....I ain't had a chance yet." Ryan insisted on him watching it, only coming to Butcher snapping at him slightly. He caught my glare at him, widening my eyes to let him know to take a breath. "Look, you're your mother's son. And I'll always watch out for you. Just how I promised. All right?" Him and Ryan talked a bit more, and I even joined when the breakfast was done. When we hung up, I just smiled at him. "What?" "It's cute to watch you go dad mode with Ryan." He rolled his eyes, taking our plates to the sink. "It's also cute to think you can hide something from me," I added on. He stopped and slowly turned to me, waiting on something else to happen. Just from my look, he knew he had to tell me everything. "I met with Maeve last night, and she gave me some info," He explained as he picked up a file from the coffee table by the couch. Giving it to me, I opened it to see it was Soldier Boy's file.
"The 'All American Hero' who died stopping a nuclear meltdown, which is guessed to be complete bullshit without anyone surprise," I skimmed over the file slightly until I started to actually read it near the bottom. "B.C.L. Red...Isn't that Russian?" I looked up at him. "How do you know it's Russian?" "It sounds Russian, and from what I'm getting from you having this information it's the thing that killed him. If whatever it is killed him, it sure as hell ain't American made." He got next to me, pointing out something in the file could help us. One was his team, maybe having an idea of where to start. I nodded hearing this, "Alright, I'll see what I can do on finding out where they're at now. Now..." I looked him in the eyes, "What else did Maeve give you?" He was about to deny that she gave him anything else, but I stopped him from even thinking of telling me more lies. With a deep sigh, he went over to the bulldog cookie jar and pulled out a small vial with some kind of green liquid in it. "She called it TempV," He voiced. "Apparently it can turn anyone takes it into a supe for 24 hours." "Absolutely not." I quickly took it from him, and he grabbed my hand to stop me from moving away from him. "Myra!" "You've told me some shit about yourself, and this shouldn't be around you. The fact that she even gave it to you is fucking stupid!" He started getting hostile with me, and I couldn't back the fuck down even if I really wanted to. "You think I would actually inject myself with this?" He questioned me.
