"Do you remember the plan?" Sindra asked as they started to hear two pairs of footsteps over their heads.
"Yep. I'm the diversion, and you'll hide down here and wait for Elena while I lead Rose away."
"That is, if the werewolf won't chase after you as well."
"I have a feeling at least one of them would want to come back down here and check on you if I'm out," Koda said. "Anyway, if this plan backfires, we've still got Plan B."
"Right." Sindra suddenly heard the basement doorknob jiggling. "I should go hide now. You better get out there and distract that sorceress."
Koda nodded and moved towards the base of the stairs, still concealed in darkness, and Sindra was hiding in an old storage closet on the opposite end of the basement. She sat in the darkness, and could not hear anything going on outside of the closet. Her heart raced. What could possibly be going on out there? She hoped this would work.
Then she heard an agitated gasp, coming from Rose. "You! How did you get out? And where the hell did your friend go?" The emotion in her voice suspiciously sounded fake, and Sindra only hoped her imagination was just running wild.
"Damn," Elena swore from the top of the stairs. "She had to have cast some sort of spell to let them both out. She's more dangerous than I thought, I'll give her that." They still think I'm the magic-wielder.
"Great, so go find her."
Then they both started to mumble something that Sindra could not hear from this end of the basement. Koda was probably unrestrained still.
Suddenly a commotion broke out, followed by a thump and a body crashing to the floor. Loud footsteps pounded up the stairs and could soon be heard upstairs. Koda must have distracted them somehow and pushed one of them down so he could kick off the first phase of their plan. Then another set of footsteps came up the stairs and slammed the basement door shut. Sindra waited for several long heartbeats before she quietly opened the closet door and crept out from behind the wall, prepared to see either Elena or Rose...
But then she felt her stomach plummet when she saw Koda laying on the floor, surrounded by an avalanche of empty boxes. She let out a string of curses.
"Koda!" She exclaimed, rushing to him as he started to rise. "What the hell happened? How did that mess up so quickly?"
Koda angrily grunted as he got to his feet and glared up at the basement door at the top of the stairs. "I almost had them, I was so close to executing my distraction, until Rose suddenly used her magic and threw me before I had the chance to act. Elena obviously followed her, probably using her tracking skills... Sindra, I don't know why, but I think they care more about you than me. That's not good. We need to get out of here now before they kill you."
"I don't know why they care so much about me either, or how they could possibly know about me before we came here, but that doesn't matter right now. I'm not leaving this place until we kill the werewolf." Her chest was heaving, as if she had just run a marathon even though she hadn't been the one to get thrown into a pile of boxes. "I don't give a damn if it kills me either."
"Well that's very badass and brave of you, but once we kill the werewolf, how the hell do we get rid of the sorceress?"
"Haven't figured that out yet. Come on, let's get out of here and go find them." Sindra led the way up the basement stairs, feeling around for her handgun and mentally cursed to herself for the umpteenth time today. Of course their weapons had been immediately confiscated upon capture.
Feeling naked without her gun or silver bullets, Sindra moved back onto the main floor of the house with Koda right on her tail. They emerged outside and went to the side of the house to get to the Jeep, but all four tires were slashed. That definitely would have helped them find the pair at a quicker rate, but clearly these women were not amateurs. Sindra let out an exasperated sigh as she turned to face Koda. "Fantastic. We've got no weapons, no car, and no werewolf." This was the first time where Sindra had no idea what to do next, but she was obviously nowhere near giving up. She accepted their new challenge with open arms and a fierce determination.
