I woke up with a call from Mindy, my best friend. Is it mean to say that most people think she is a nutcase? She is unusual, but we have been best friends since we were little, when I beat up Nathan Harris to help her get her magic wand(don't ask) back. She is the only friend I can depend on to not move to popular crowd, which she calls the "Makeup Jerks." She is considered,"the dorkiest nerd in the world," by the the Makeup Jerks, but she says,"Why judge me when you can be doing your makeup."

I accepted her call and asked,"What's up."

She asked,"Are you all right? I got a sense that something was disrupting your aura. One of the elements. I thought your house burned down! I was trying to call you all night!"

"Well," I said, anxious to get the story out. "I got kidnapped by water, I was taken to some weird place underwater, some dude came in with a tail which he turned to legs, which I proceeded to kick between. He crumpled, I escaped, and here I am now."

Mindy was silent for a good, long moment, then muttered,"I wanted proof magical creatures existed, and magical creatures kidnap my friend." Then she said,"Well, you got kidnapped by mermaids, simple as that. Only these are different than the fairy tale mermaids. Meet me at Hale's, pronto."

She hung up and I shrugged. Hale's is a store that sells spell books and mystical herbs. Mindy was a valued customer there and was good friends with Madame Hale, the fortune teller who owned the store.

I jumped on my bike and rode down to town. I parked in front of Hale's and locked my bike to the bike rack. Mindy's bike was already there. I went in and Laura-Cate, Madame Hale's little girl, ran up to me and yelled,"Momma! Sandy is here!" I gave LC a hug and walked to a table that Mindy was sitting at in the book section.

I sat at the table and asked,"Got a book?"

Mindy nodded and said,"Osheens. Based on your information, I took this book and found this." She opened the book and it showed a girl with a shiny tail. The tail looked an awful lot like the boy's tail.

"That is like the boy's tail," I noted and read aloud,"Osheens are a formal type of mythical creature. They have traditions that must be followed, like men are supposed to fight and women are for breeding purposes."

Mindy and I looked at each other and similtaneously said,"Eww."

"Women in an Osheen society are judged by their beauty for wedding and when no suitable women are available, women from the closest human society are taken," I read aloud. "Their memories from their past life are erased and they are taught to live in Osheen society and learn the rules of etiquette."

Mindy said,"Somehow, you resisted memory wiping and that's probably why you escaped instead of staying because of confusion."

I nodded, remembering how I had reviewed my memories just before meeting the boy.

Mindy said,"Osheens, as the book says, are extremely stubborn, so watch out."

That kind of scared me. Extremely stubborn. That means they will back soon. And that meant I wasn't out of hot water yet.

AN: Okay, bad pun. Could have done much better. Mindy seems cool, don't ya think. Anyway, sorry about not updating in a while. I get a story idea and it just disappears once I start it. Don't worry, I'm going to keep updating. Later!
